The thing is the only reason this has been cancelled is because of the bloke from mclaren had he not have caught it there would have been full grandstands all weekend

Erm, yeah obviously. If that Chinese fella hadn't caught it the first place there’d be full grandstands all weekend too.

What im saying is there could be people in the grandstands with it and a place like that it would spread crazily plus lots of fans have access to the paddock itself but at that point they were fine for it to continue it wasnt until a team member caught it they decided to cancel, and even then they left it as late as possible with fans trying to get in for practice.

No way next weekend will be going ahead either imo. Hanoi looks doubtful too.

As Brundle mentioned on Sky just before, we may potentially end up having to wait until May or June for a race.

Shall we all just accept that the FIA and F1 were waiting to check they were financially-covered before making the announcement - its obvious that was the case. Shitbags.

Absolutely they were. They run a business and we’re effectively in a stand off with GP Australia to see who would blink first. The fact that they’ve issued a joint statement suggests that a financial agreement has been reached.

This clearly has far reaching consequences than any of us on here have to deal and it’s a lot of money at stake. They reached the right decision but money came first and clearly delayed it.

They chose to let fans travel and congregate - that was their choice. Its disgraceful.

So I’m in Melbourne at the moment, complete shitshow from the FIA/F1 and the Aus GP corporation.

Drove past Albert Park this morning and the fans were all queuing up but not being let in, awful treatment and should’ve been cancelled ages ago.

My sisters fella knows someone in hospitality and they were working at the hotel Mercedes were based in and they had got a call to arrange for 96 people to get out of Melbourne in the early hours so it’s clear they could’ve announced it way earlier.

Was looking like a 2005 USA situation but atleast they’ve had the balls to call it off. Disappointing as it would’ve been the first GP i’d got to but oh well.

There has been suggestions races could be rescheduled for next year and the new regulations delayed until 2022
I don't think they need to do that, just cancel races for a month or two, and hopefully the situation has changed by then, then just have less races in the championship.
