Piss poor example. The Aussies were pretty much outplayed all series.

The Aussies at home and saffers away could have gone either way and Broad put his hand up when it really counted shame Jimmy couldnt have done the same

You're on a wind-up.

so we have now jumped from test cricket to one day cricket to prove a point

Yeah, imagine if someone had used a player being dropped from the one day team as proof that his days were numbered in the Test side.

Imagine if that had happend somewhere.......

Don't understand the vendetta against Anderson at all. There are no bowlers in English cricket who could come into the side and do a better job than Anderson. He was distinctly average in his early years in test cricket but he is now an established, reliable and consistent performer on the test circuit. It might hurt your pride but I dont know why you dont just stick your hand up and admit that he's proven, and continuing to prove, you wrong.

We have a good bowling unit in Broad, Swann, Tremlett and Anderson. Broad may be in poor form but at some point or other each player is going to be out of form, not necessarily meaning they should be replaced.

Still winnable this game i reckon. Cook batted well today and looks really good. Pieterson done well too. Good stuff, hit 300 and get them back in.

Need more than 300. We'll need a lead of at least 250, then put them back in and hope the weather allows us enough time to knock off the wickets.

interesting just been listening to Vaughans cricket show on radio and more and more people are becoming fed up with these farce series in May/June which are rain effected pretty much every year.

What people are most complaining about is the fact the touring sides dont want to be here and this is making the series a joke

Forecast is poor for the monday, get them in tomorrow afternoon then if it goes into monday it will be similar to the first day and we can knock them off cheaply again. Worth a try we can't lose it at this point.

It's supposed to be the height of summer in June though. It will always rain in the English summer no matter when you play the cricket. The rest is true though. It's very obvious Sri Lanka dont want to be here, but as has already been said on this thread/somewhere on here recently, they rarely look interested anywhere they play apart from at home.

becoming a recurring theme.

Bangladesh last year and the windies before them.

cant we just have a five test series against the Indians throughout July and August

I'm with EB here.

Look at the Champions League - who watches the group games?

5 tests for the summer. 5 one dayers and maybe a couple of that slogging game.

And the test players play some county cricket

I think the problem with having 2 series a summer is that we can never get two major nations over because neither would want to play 2nd fiddle. Perhaps having a one day series and 2/3 T20s with a nation in May/June then a 5 test series then 5 one days in July and August.

It still gives plenty of grounds a chance to host international cricket and you can bet the Sri Lankans would look more interested if they'd came over here for some pajama cricket instead. It then means a big summer series is more highly anticipated. It would also allow counties to have their England players playing for them in September in the run in of the LVCC

you have spoke some nonsense on this board but this must be your best ever post, well thought out and logical

Couldn't we just do what they do (did?) in Australia and have one test series and then a tri-nations ODI tournament against another side.

We could start a 5 match test series at the start of June and finish it by early August, thus reducing the ridiculous amount of back-to-back test matches we're seeing nowadays. The Tri-nations tournament could then start in mid-August, unlike now where the ODI's they're tagged on as an afterthought in mid-September. This would surely lead to more competitive and a better standard or cricket.
