I was quite happy with Joe Denly, averaging 30, but his face didn't seem to fit and he wasn't one for the future. They dropped him for Crawley, he did ok, averages 30 as well, but his recent form is awful and they've now dropped Crawley for Hameed who never looked for a minute like a test player all game. Crawley is a classy batsman with a fine technique and will have his time. Reminds me of a young Atherton.
I don't think they'll give up on this series, so I don't expect many changes, but if they get thumped again in the third test maybe they'll throw in a few googlies. At some point quite soon they need to blood some younger players, blend with the handful of decent reliable pros they have, and stick the fuck with them. Pope should return from injury next week, I'd probably put Malan in there. I would put Crawley back fairly soon despite his test form, after a few innings for Kent. I'd keep Burns but not Sibley - but there isn't an obvious opener to replace him with anywhere. Abell at Somerset or Carlson at Glamorgan are in form, maybe Libby of Worcs as well, and might be worth chucking in but are not openers. Dare I say.... Jennings?!
Bedingham is qualified for England, isn't he... he's slagged off Cricket South Africa so much they'd never cap him now, surely??
