Emilio Gay

Just seen a little clip on Twitter from an interview with Talk Sport. By all accounts towards the back end of last year West Indies approached him to go and play for them but he quite rightly turned it town with his focuses on England.

He might regret that.

Would it make hm an overseas player from a Durham perspective?

There’s a good interview with him on the wisden cricket podcast a couple of weeks ago

I've read articles suggesting that England might ask both him and Rew to open for the lions in a couple of weeks time. A bit of a shoot out as it were for Crawley's old spot

regardless of whether that's true or not, I'm not expecting Gay to be available to play for us when the T20 starts

Its pointless trying to turn Rew into an opener when he’s clearly next in line for the keeper spot or if one of Bethell, root and brook get injured

I agree, but it's never stopped England from trying to fit round pegs into square holes before. For what it's worth, I think only Sibley is challenging Gay for the opener berth in June and I'm not sure England will want to go back to him

He didn't play in the blast last year anyway

I don't think they'll go back to Sibley, he gets plenty runs but his strike rate hasn't improved. Rew and Tribe are opening for their counties for a reason, and Gay and McKinney will both be in the mix.
