Originally heard this story a fortnight ago from a regular poster on here currently 'taking a time out' Would be an excellent signing for both red and white ball cricket.

What with Rhodes coming as well I imagine this would be the sign for Jones to be heading down the M6.

With him and Rhodes coming in, who also bats in the top 3 I'm guessing that means at least one batsman will be leaving. Maybe I'm being naive but one of the cornerstones of Durham cricket is the strong core of homegrown talent in the team, I'm hoping these signings don't come at the expense of that.

And what does it say of Clark and Badgers future?
Or,worse still,Bedders also leaving.I find it strange that he's put S.Africa A ahead of Durham.

I'm afraid they are.
The home talent is still around but developing it is clearly no longer a priority.

Or they are just taking longer to progress?

McKinney, Bushnell and Mustard are not far off. Hogg and McAlindon probably aren’t far behind. Mackintosh looked a very solid keeper before he decided it wasn’t for him. Lads like Minto and Hughes Pinan are very highly spoken of by the management.

Hogg needs to be given some trousers that fit him mind 😂

Obviously I hope they do come through but I am concerned that nothing has come through from the Academy since Potts. That's 7 years under North's regime -that's a long barren period.I would say only McKinney has enhanced his reputation in the 1day development competition this season. I'll receive judgement on Hogg but the others look miles off.

I'd be amazed if Scotty isn't released after signing Rhodes. He's 34 and only had one good season since returning to the club.

Jones I would also see being released. He looked like he was going to kick on to the next level in 2022 but has since regressed. He will get more chances in div 2.

Mustard looks like a youth team player. Conceded a load of byes, stands back to medium fast bowlers. Like day and night compared to Robinson behind the stumps. Fair play he's only 18 but Mackintosh looked really good when he replaced Eckersley.

Leaving Northants at the end of the season.

Rumoured to be heading our way.

A great signing, so wonder if this is potentially Clark being moved away from in red ball.

He's not had a good season along with Badger. Next seasons top 6, almost feels a bit of a waste of Robbo though. So maybe Ackermann at 6 instead.

Lees
Gay
Rhodes
Ackermann
Bedingham
Robinson

Imports gonna continue while we neglect the academy. No coincidence that the production line was so good when the best kids were playing tough league cricket from the age of 15. Now relying on them either being at or finding a good club, with a captain who looks after their interests where possible, not just the team's that day.

FWIW Gay is a top player and will likely do a great job, I just wish it was a local lad coming through the ranks.

I share your concern but North was talking up McKinney in the article. I can see Gay, Rhodes and McKinney replacing Borthwick, Jones and Clark in the near future. Don't think Ackerman has many years left in him either so it makes sense to be bringing in a couple of younger players with the long term in mind. But yes, it would be great if that is alongside McKinney, Mustard, Killeen, Minto etc
