Emilio Gay

He suffered a hamstring injury in the Lions game which puts him out of cricket action for a month but will be more than ready for Durham's pre season.

I’d assume if he had played for England he couldn’t play for them, but he hasn’t played for England yet.
If he played for Italy in the world cup would that mean he'd have to wait for a period of time before he could play for England? Given he did alright with the Lions he might feel he's close to a call up.

I wouldn’t have thought he would have to wait. I couldn’t be certain but I’d have thought that given the status of Italy he would be fine to go straight away. It would be different going the other way I’d think though. That is based on hunches and assumption though and not facts!

He had not long since spoke about the possibility of facing England in the WC so I’d have thought he certainly expected to be in the squad. If it was going to be a barrier to playing for England soon you’d have thought he’d have best said nothing.

No

You can play for an associate nation and immediately play for a Test nation if called up.

Obviously they have to qualify as that test nation. Of which the likes of Gay and Tribe already do.

But if both played for England they couldn't then just go back to play for Italy and Jersey immediately. Would have to re qualify like Boyd Rankin did for Ireland after his solitary test for England in an Ashes mauling.
