Durham vs Sussex - T20 1/4 Final

Disappointing result tonight. But if someone had said to me in April, Durham will come second in the North Group but be knocked out in the Quarter Final I would have laughed in their face. To me it means we have made progress this season. Hopefully signing Lees and Bancroft will make 2019 an even better season and a return to Division 1 a real possibility.
The future looks bright. Much rather be a Durham supporter at the moment than Yorkshire. Only a change of coach will change that

Just home as been out after the game. Genuinely gutted but also very proud of my team Durham. We've been through some tough times in the last 18 months so to reach a 1/4 final of a competition is remarkable given what has gone on. We've just got to remain strong & determined & I'm sure the good times will be back in the near future. Well done Durham. Some strange decisions tonight but beaten by a very well organised side. Made my feelings known about who should and who shouldn't be playing, i now think it's imperative we give the young lads every opportunity now to kick on and see the season out. Again well done Durham

Oh and one final thing, the ECB are a fuckin disgrace. Never in a million years is Stokes injured. He batted with power and threw himself at everything in the field and his throws from the boundary were strong/accurate/powerful. To prevent him from bowling was an absolute disgrace and conning the paying public

Beaten by the better side on the night. They got the breaks, who knows but it's a fact stokes was wrongly given out, proven without any doubt

Their spinners won the game, 8 overs four for 35. I did say pre match I was more worried about their slow bowlers than the pace lads and sadly I was proven correct.

Never mind, it's been a great effort by Durham to get to this stage and no complaints really.

Thank you lads for all your efforts in the comp. Let's go on a win streak in the championship
This

Still gutted mind.

Now we kick on and finish well in the CC. A good 4th or even sneaking in at 3rd would be excellent. Not a fan of the music like a lot on here but I do like The Futureheads walk on music. I don't know who is behind that but the late Colin Craig (whose books were donated to start the CC bookshop down the ground) would be proud as punch to hear his lad's music leading the team out.

He was I agree however I’m sure he could have bowled 4 and we both know that next week if he is bowling well they will think nothing of giving him a 10 over spell
Well he is an England player and the issue would not be could he bowl tonight but if he does can England be sure he could bowl in a 5 day Test coming up.

I reckon it would probably be down to Stokes that he played at all, I mean him asking and persuading England to change their mind.

Tbf the game was lost after the first innings,Durham did not score enough runs that was clear.

It would be nice if you just accepted defeat without having a go at the ECB, it's tiresome the amount of time the ECB gets blamed for everything under the sun on this board.

Many, myself include, regard the sanctions imposed by ECB unjustified and unfair particularly since it has become apparent that other counties i.e.Glamorgan, Northants have been bailed out by ECB without incurring any financial penalty or points deduction. As a result of these sanctions Durham have lost the services of 6 players of international standard. The team has been seriously weakened by these departures and,it follows therefore, that the team's underperformance is solely down to the ECB. I'm amazed that anyone could argue otherwise.
Sussex are a strong inform team but I wouldn't agree that Durham were well beaten. Stokes was given out to an appalling umpiring decision, as replays confirm, and a simple catch wasn't taken when a match -winning partnership was in it's infancy. Results of many games, of course, hinge on singular moments which turn out to be game-changing. So be it

Sport is full of ifs and buts by very nature, always has been always will be, but the mature and sporting just accept defeat and move on and just say well played to the opposition.

Others twist about this and that and official decisions that is one of the reasons why football is such a childish sport nowadays.

Durham were given a raw deal by the ECB think everyone will agree with that, but that does not mean they have to be blamed for every single thing!

Yes, umpiring decisions go for and against teams and so long as there's no bias you accept it and move on. That doesn't alter the fact that they can considerably affect the result of a game. Playing standards are going to be affected long term by a shameful ECB decision but I'm not aware that they've been blamed for anything other than that in this board. It's going to have a long term effect so it's fair and relevant to refer back to it long term surely.

I've accepted the result and congratulated Sussex but as a paying member I'm entitled to dispute Ben Stokes' well being for the game. He didn't look injured to me, just think it's hideous having outsiders telling us how to play a 1/4 final and I said exactly this before the game. I stand by my opinion which I'm entitled to, that Ben Stokes was capable of bowling last night from what I saw of him. The whole ECB setup is rotten, likewise Sky who couldn't even produce a proper scoreboard ffs. Just utter shit. As I keep saying on here.... ECB clowns!!!. Frustrating to accept our best player is one minute injured then next able to play but not bowl for a 1/4 final, it's hideous

I think the whole situation of robbing a player making a contribution for a team in such a important game is bad crack, so agree with you on that aspect.

But unfortunately it happens all the time to every county who have players on central contracts.

It's on here the ECB is blamed for every single thing and it becomes tiresome imo.

We batted poor and that's why we lost.

Anyone heard what the crowd was last night.

I heard 8000 expected - yea right
and I heard someone say fewer there than he thought.....

so anyone heard anything remotely official?

The sanctions thing I've moved on from that, I've dismissed that excuse numerous times on here. The "not allowed" to bowl is a separate issue, you don't keep pinging throws to the wicket keeper at the force and accuracy Stokes was doing last night if you have an injury stopping you from bowling. Im just not buying into that at all, but the club are powerless as are all other clubs. Enjoyed the T20 campaign and me and the wife aren't the biggest fans of the T20 but everyone at the club have made a massive effort this year and we've enjoyed it

Umpiring decisions can always happen that effect a game, but I have never heard a captain at his interview at the end of a cricket match look back on a decision and say if that player had been given out lbw early on,instead of getting that hundred it would have been a different game, they just focus on their team and in the main praise the other team for their performance unlike football who twist all the time.

Yeah fair enough of course that decision has long term effect, don't think anyone was arguing otherwise and of course feelings will stay high for a while.

But I can ensure you they blamed for loads of here from, fixture scheduling, too much white ball cricket etc etc.

I agree top players should be able to play in big games and bat and bowl.
