Barold.I don’t use hew or bavvy
They both sound rather common. I prefer “excuse me” and “Barry”.
Obviously, you get loads of practice Hew. Plus, saying ew instead of hew would sound even more ridiculousI feel seen...
I do use 'how man', usually when not happy and shouting to get someone's attention. Thankfully in Hetton we still remember to pronounce the letter 'H' unlike our towny brethren though...
Pit villages it's more "ew", but unfortunately after living here my whole life, it does sneak into my vocabulary
Is this same as when you say "owe mate?" to get somebody's attention?
Or are all the posters saying they say 'hew' completely stupid?
No. Some people are suggesting it is though.
They stick it on the end of sentences, hew.
CorrectThat's ridiculous.
Yakka speak int it, as a North side townie we say 'ow man'
Aye me granda used to say that ex Sunderland coal hewer (hewing the coal)"Hoo man", "Hoo man" aye, "How, ye" aye
"Hew's" what a coal hewer does...
North Tyneside/Northumberland pit village vernacular, can't speak for Wearside and Durham
Same.Never used it or even heard it anywhere, apart from on here.
