Do we need to do a Coventry

I remember comparing us just a couple of months ago to last seasons playoff contenders and we were looking great.

Cov and Boro were struggling. Millwall were in the relegation zone.

But Cov are a prime example of a club that had to make some difficult decisions, took some time to gel, but are now looking like a far more rounded team then they were last season.

Gykoress and Hamer were a massive loss. But they reinvested 35 million well and we would likely snap your hand off for their season. They stand a good chance still of making the playoffs and an FA Cup Semi.

Ipswich a different but similar example of a club that didn’t sell players for big money but have invested in every position to create a strong team.

If the board haven’t got the money to spend big this summer but we can be cost neutral (no reason to think we can’t based on previous windows) I’d reluctantly take selling Clarke and Neil to fund a full team strengthening. Whether we spend it wisely is a different question but Cov are a good example of a club that sold a couple of top players to improve overall.

Money won’t be reinvested and what’s the likelihood we get a competent coach. Both Ipswich and Coventry have a very good manager we have just had one of the worst ever and this board was happy to write a quarter of the season off with a caretaker.

You would have be either very naive or an utter optimist to think this board is investing 15 plus in the squad in the summer what little money we have spent has been spent pretty poorly.

Hang on, surely this is the actual 'model' we're getting told we're supposed to be under anyway

It should be no surprise.

We sell, and use the money to reinvest in improving.
Surely this isn't anything new and what we all thought!!!!

Whether we will actually reinvest in improving after selling, well that remains to be seen.

The strengthening of the squad this year has been a disaster.
Clarke will inevitably leave to get the funds to strengthen, gonna be a huge summer window for the owners because without clarkes input we will be properly fucked if the offerings are just more kids from the arse end of two bob leagues

Play off semi final last year. Stewart sold for 10 mill. Shite and loans brought in. Never kicked on, Mowbray left because of it.
We brought in some good and some bad. Aouchiche and Bellingham who aren't shite. Mundle, we still can't comment on and Pembele who we haven't seen enough of. Our strikers, though. I'll give you that...

I disagree. Some had been spent poorly and some hasn't. We'll make far more than we've spent, when we sell Jobe and Aouchiche and it's too early to comment on mundle or Pembele.
I still believe there's a footballer in Rusyn: he's just being asked to do a job that isn't natural to him. Time will tell.

100% yes.

Their two strikers cost about 15 million. They have scored the winning goals in the cup to get them to semis and are in great form, both with 16 goals each so far this season in all competitions.

That is the blue print we need with the clarke cash, proven strikers none of these kids who have done bugger all who may or may not be decent in 5 years.

The litmus test is IF we do that.

Reality is that every club at this level will lose their very best players and seek to reinvest wisely

Happens for every club

Liverpool did it brilliantly with the Coutinho money
Spurs pissed the Bale money up the wall
Barca pissed it away even more with the Neymar money
Spurs have done pretty well with the Kane money
Villa done well with the Grealish money.
Dortmund always do well with the mega money they've had in sales over the years.
