County Cricket 2023

Yeah agree totally the change in points (less for a draw) and more aggression has really helped 4 day cricket imo.

Said on one of threads before the season that the change in points definitely a right direction to go.

Not sure I agree entirely with your second point, especially last year, Durham in particular were involved in some dreadful non result games.

However going forward think everybody wants to see a thriving county championship and undoubtedly in my view the way to do that is make it more entertaining and do that more results and more aggression and more risk taking by captains to achieve that is the way to go.

It was disappointing the way the Somerset Lancashire game went last week, but those games now seem few and far between.

There is more focus on trying to achieve a result by attacking cricket long may it continue .

As I said, it took a couple of years to readjust after covid and the problems with the ball, but the CC has always produced this level of game. It just passes a lot of people by as there's little or no hype.

And you're wrong, not everyone wants to see a thriving county championship. There are loads of people, and unfortunately a lot of the games administrators, which would like nothing better than to see the CC die.
Not many teams have done it like

Hardly any teams are getting max bonus points, the majority of teams who win aren’t even in one side games

It’s helped us for sure but not sure it’s had the desired effect across the country.

I think Durham’s pitch is helping them as it’s flat and they know they can trust it and score quickly

I've heard Durham's coach, Lancs' coach (and Jimmy Anderson) and commentators on the streams all say that the changes to points system has encourage teams to be more aggressive.

Lancashire have 5 draws

I saw some of them play Essex and I’d say it was the exact opposite of “bazball”. No attempt to win the game whatsoever
Well depends on you believe in regards the Lancs/Somerset game

See post 445 by me some reason won't link properly. Goes to 443 and 444 instead

The rain affected game where they scored at 4.5rpo in the 2nd innings to set Essex 340 in 70 overs? The one where Cricinfo's headline is literally:

Stubborn Essex refuse to take the bait, securing draw despite Lancashire's Bazball morning

Fucks sake man.

I think the whole culture is changing in longer format cricket for the good of the game.

CC hasn’t always produced them games or at least not enough of them as the culture has been not weighted enough to look to win games rather than draw them.

I fully agree with you on the change of points system, and now it is weighted more to look for a win rather than a draw, that was needed as was the more attacking approach.

In the past both in test cricket and CC too much emphasis was put imo on making sure you don’t lose rather than risky a loss to create a win.

That culture is changing for a number of reasons for the good of the game and for the good of the county championship long may it continue and long may the county championship flourish.

How did it work? Was it like bt sport on a champions league night moving between games when something happens ?

I never saw this before on this thread
Yeah pretty much that, even when they (presenter and reece topley) were chatting away though there was always a game being shown in the background alternating when there was a wicket etc
