County Cricket 2023

It actually is tbf, especially while a match is taking place. There is some interesting discussion, but a lot of moaning, squabbling and certainly not the humour of this one

Interestin how you were by far the best team in the country when this supposed toxic atmosphere was taking place. Almost like sacking your entire staff was a bad idea.

I'm not discussing it. Seem to get into bother on here when I do
Even being a Hull fan on the football board feels like safer ground these days

Ha not having ago, I just find the whole thing completely and utterly over the top. Things in life are grey not clear cut. They got caught in a media storm and must be wondering why on earth they decided to set fire to the entire club

I think they panicked at the prospect of having the Tests taken away, which would have bankrupted the club, so had to be seen to do something. Of course if they'd accepted the problems sooner, instead of trying to brush it under the carpet, they would probably have had time to step back and come up with an acceptable solution, given the accused time to tell their side and all of that, before making an informed decison

The very idea that they should have their tests taken away is mental in my opinion. I’m not going over old ground again but I don’t agree with any of that. Probs best to leave it

Durham lost their right to stage test matches in October 2016. In the name of fairness the ECB should do the same to Yorkshire.

Not for me, we all know the Durham thing is a disgrace, which I am still not over, but 2 wrongs dont make a right
Took a year or two to get back to pre Covid standards, but the CC really is delivering. Some fantastic games every week.

its absolutely a mint, totally unique compeititon, I think it has a chance to get more popular as a beacon of 4 day cricket in a landscape of T20 shite

Agree. If the ECB have learned a lesson, which I think they have given how they backtracked, how would it be the right thing to do to punish someone else in the same way?

I’d be surprised if Chapple isn’t a relation of Glenn’s also.
Yes all played together for the North u15s at the Bunbury festival with Archie Vaughan. 4 former England players sons.
Durham first opponents on Friday night brgin their T20 campaign tonight with a home game against Worcestershire.
David Willey returns to captain them and their two overseas are the Aussies Chris Lynn and AJ Tye. Interesting to see how they go tonight.

I certainly think the new approach from England has helped that and started to filter down and encouraged teams to play more for a result.

Imo that can only be good for all concerned, England, county cricket and the watching public.

Durham’s approach been particularly pleasing in that regard.

The coaches and players have attributed it mostly to the points for a draw being cut, but a more aggressive approach certainly hasn't hurt.

The CC has always thrown up excellent games, week in week out.

Yeah agree totally the change in points (less for a draw) and more aggression has really helped 4 day cricket imo.

Said on one of threads before the season that the change in points definitely a right direction to go.

Not sure I agree entirely with your second point, especially last year, Durham in particular were involved in some dreadful non result games.

However going forward think everybody wants to see a thriving county championship and undoubtedly in my view the way to do that is make it more entertaining and do that more results and more aggression and more risk taking by captains to achieve that is the way to go.

It was disappointing the way the Somerset Lancashire game went last week, but those games now seem few and far between.

There is more focus on trying to achieve a result by attacking cricket long may it continue .

Not many teams have done it like

Hardly any teams are getting max bonus points, the majority of teams who win aren’t even in one side games

It’s helped us for sure but not sure it’s had the desired effect across the country.

I think Durham’s pitch is helping them as it’s flat and they know they can trust it and score quickly
