Colback or Henderson

You've just misinterpreted the comment in the same way as it was then :lol:.

If he was in the same midfield as those players he would have closed down opposition in exactly the same way and when he received the ball he would have passed it first time to Messi or Iniesta. I didn't say he was anywhere near as good as those players.
 
People don’t look that daft here.

Henderson always had the potential to be very good because of his vision and ability to move it quickly and accurately. In some respects, I still think he could have been a more influential player for Liverpool and England over a longer period.

That said, at the time of this thread, Colback had put in more complete and mature performances for Sunderland in the top flight than Henderson had. Henderson, in his short career here, showed high quality glimpses but often looked timid and lacking in responsibility / maturity compared to Colback. Had that Liverpool and Fulham swap deal gone through, Henderson’s career could very easily have gone a similar way to Colback’s.

But that’s where Henderson is obviously far superior to Colback. Decision making, commitment, drive and ambition. He’s looked after himself, physically improved and also had the benefit of playing under arguably the best man manager and coach in the world to improve his game as well.

I remember posting at the time JH could have been put into Barcelona's midfield without standing out and in a good way. I was laughed at. He was fantastic at closing opposition down, being in good positions and passing quickly and accurately.
When he was at Sunderland he couldn't tackle or head the ball which he's developed at Liverpool. They both had potential but one made a really good choice and the other made a really, really bad choice and got what he deserved.

One thing I think Henderson deserves credit for is turning down the swap move (with Dempsey?) to Fulham. He stuck at it and turned into a critical player for Liverpool. He could easily have gone chasing easier games at Fulham and become a midtable player (no shame in playing at that level)

I was a SW cornerer back then and he had a few shouting shite and you never saw Jordan hide. Never thought he would be the leader he is now. Remember him asking a mate how to deal with bullies when at primary school as we played football in summer hill herra. My mate said kick their head like a football. Not sure if he applies that pychology today
