Chris Mepham

Onien gets criticised constantly on here. People even saying mepham is constantly covering for him which is a complete lie.

I would go Ballard and mepham next Friday regardless.
And the same people defending him but whining about others making the same mistakes

I can't believe the drop off in his performances in the second half of the season. He looked so imperious at times, but now resembles a bog standard Championship defender. Bizarre.

Would Ballard alongside him help raise his game or should he be on the bench for the playoffs?
It's the same for the full team, they need to up their game for these play offs, the manager needs to motivate them (can't see that happening, he cannot motivate himself tbf)

I'd be happy with that. Mepham got absolutely tortured in the league down there. Ballard is out biggest, strongest defender. Has to play for me.

O'Nien has got to go towards the ball.

Mepham must at least try to close down the man with the ball shaping to shoot. He's stood still several times this season in similar positions, it's absolutely bizarre. It's basic defending.

The ball is the lost important thing in football. Not retaining shape.
I don’t fully agree here especially suggesting the ball is the móst important thing nd not the shape as that would say let’s just all pile towards the ball which would be a little bit silly. I don’t think Mepham was to blame at all and had O,nien seen the player Jobe let run past him then he would have picked him up and there would be no free run on goal. We all see different things I suppose and that’s fair enough.

If onien didn't go their lad would have walked into the box unopposed. It was just a mess by everyone, i don't think anyone necessarily does the right thing. It was just too easy to play through the left hand side. There was le fee, neil, cirkin, jobe all around that side and one simple pass left most of them a mile from getting back involved, and none of them even made the effort. Pathetic

By going he missed the lad go by Jobe and effectively he had a free run unopposed into the box.
But that's the point the gap between the midfield and defence was pathetic. If onien doesn't go then he gets blamed for allowing their player to march in on goal after beating cirkin easily. He's not innocent in it, but everyone is lacking in that goal

Got a horrible feeling he will bite, I think the form has been weighing on the bloke. There’s one thing I’ll never aim at onien is the fact he does care. Many other players I do wonder but I can see it means a lot to onein which can be a weakness at times.
He’s always been a 100% player. Lacks a bit of pace and tends to grab and grapple. I guess we’ll have a premier league ref and Coventry will make a meal of it.

When a player is unopposed near the box the ball is 100% the most important thing

Who was Mepham picking up? Basically there was 1 player between him and Hume. The nearest player has got to go towards the ball. That was Mepham. To stand still and allow him to have a shot under no pressure is literally madness.

The goal scorer came from deep and was never tracked. Even when the cross was made he was 5yards outside the box. He was then able to take touches get to 12 yards out to hit it and Mepham never left the 6 yard line. But the real cause is midfield not tracking runners back

Really pushing it to attach blame to Mepham for the goal mind

I'm not blaming him, I'm blaming the midfield who have let him run unopposed and not even bothered to communicate that he was coming. If there was atleast some communication the defense may have approached it differently knowing the risk that lad would then create
There was another chance they had first half after a le fee error, where again there was just no communication. The fist time I saw Neil actually scream at people trying to understand what the hell they were doing

Like I say we all have our own valued opinions. You said yours I disagreed and said mine. If you want to dissect it anymore than that then feel free.

To be fair, football without goals would be pretty boring. Mistakes and lapses in concentration happen. A defence conceding 1 goal in a game should not be that signoficant with 90 minutes to stick goals in at the other end of the pitch.

Of course, without a mistake somewhere a goal wouldn't be scored. Liverpool have conceded one similar today
