Chester-le-Street

CLS isn't dying. The Front Street is.

The majority of people who live there would never visit the Front Street.
Where else is there for shops?

Fair point though, it’s a ‘High Street’ death. Although called Front Street in CLS.

When I say it isn't dying, I mean it's grown a lot the last 20-30 years as a commuter town.

It was a nightmare getting on to the A1 in the 90s. God knows what it's like now?

Used to have a few pints there on the way to cricket matches at the Riverside, Butchers and Cricket Club always 2 if the better pubs. Not been since before COVID though.

Was in Chester last Saturday, went to spoons about 3 a few in there, then went across to the Rumpot, sat outside. Had a canny few sitting in the sun, was enjoyable, the went home didn't see anything else as was told most of the decent places were now closed.
Shame, used to be a decent afternoon out.
A new low. Walked into the Lambton not a single person in :(
Too expensive

How long has what used to be The Bridge been a restaurant? Barely go into Chester at all these days but been down twice recently for click and collects from Tesco and noticed it.

Couple of weeks. I was in there last night, it was packed. It was alright - probably a bit more expensive than other places in Chester.

The changes to nightlife in CLS in the last 25 years is incredible.

I can remember people queing to get into the Dukes Room!

About 3 weeks. Been in 4 times. Really and good value.

Go in quite a bit and it can be a bit hit and miss in terms of numbers in. Always a decent pint.
They've cancelled all bands on a Friday night so I assumed they must be struggling, this probably bears it out. The High Crown had it's last night on Friday apparently, now shut down. Partly self-inflicted imo as I know loads who have never been back in since the debacle over the badges on the windows.

The whole chain of pubs owned by the same company is up for sale I think. The lass told me that the Lambton is actually one of the most profitable pubs in the chain.
