CC :: Durham v Derbyshire


Another game where we enter Day 4 with a great chance of victory but still a lot of work to do. The cricket the lads have played so far this season has been a credit to them, to be in the position on the third night of every game where we are favourites for victory both remarkable and heartening.

The pitch appears fairly docile, so it won’t be easy and I’m sure Badger would’ve loved another hour or so in the game in order to have built a slightly bigger lead, but if we can’t take 10 wickets on a Day 4 Chester-le-street pitch tomorrow then we don’t deserve to end our run without a win.

One thing is for sure though, which I said last week, the future is bright.
 
I wish I could share the optimism. Durham have just scored 175-2 at 4 an over. Derby continue at that rate and they win the game. There's a reason Durham haven't won in 10 games- their attack is totally 1 dimensional. I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

I can't see Derby getting close to Durham's total but I totally agree if this is what the "new" wickets are going to be like this season then Durham need to have more variety in their attack. It looks like the cricket could be very attritional at the Riverside this summer rather than the traditional games which are over within 3 days. I can't believe the amount of overs Madsen has bowled in this match without actually getting any serious tap against the opposition who are dominating which probably sums up how slow the wicket is.

Interesting interview with the groundsman about the new square - just a levelling rather than a completed relay. I suspect the wicket would be low and slow anyway given the dry,chilly April we've had.Whilst Derby will have to be extremely positive to win our 2nd innings bowling so far this season doesn't give me reasons for optimism.

I think if they are positive then they will find it very difficult and will probably loose wickets. But unlike the normal Riverside wickets where at anytime "there is a ball with your name on it " this one if you have the application and desire there is more chance you can grind it out.
Having said all that I still think Durham will win.

This wicket reminds me of the one used for the Leics home game towards the end of the 2019 season where for once Fatty Cosgrove went against his natural attacking instincts and dropped anchor on the final day to deny Durham....let's hope I'm wrong.
 
I'll never understand why wicket keepers don't stand at first slip when not got the gloves on. Might not have made a difference here like but it's always grated

I agree with many posters on this. It appears Durham have a pace attack suited for a normal year April/May and September/October - but turns out this isn't a normal year.

Not much we can do about it. We're not going to find a demon spinner in the next couple of weeks Trevaskis being the only option.

I'm not particularly confident about this match today.
