CC :: Durham v Derbyshire

Wood will have a big say in when and how much cricket he needs to play outside of England duty.
Unfortunately for Durham he appears to be able to go an age between bowling out in the middle then turn up and bowl quick and fast.
I think ‘Team England’ will have far more of any say than Wood himself.

5 bowlers in the starting xi is something I've been saying from day one... We really need a dobber in the middle order or have enough faith in our top/middle order that we can play 5 bowlers 7-11.

Every match so far we've scored enough runs but not had the wicket takers (yes I include Essex match) so back our batsmen and bring an extra bowler in. Especially when bancroft comes in for young
In terms of scoring, you're right of course but also the batters have had the advantage in conditions and it's the same conditions that have caused the bowlers so much difficulty.

Can we stop this nonsense please? Batsmen is fine.

Can you stop the whole how many times have you seen someone live you only say it to me and especially if you haven't seen him yourself

Stop saying Trevaskis is shite when you haven't seen him bowl then.

You're basing your assessment of the lad on a first class average from when he was 18. If you watched him in white ball stuff since then you would see a tidy bowler who can hold down an end and also handle a bat.

WHED is the sort of Durham fan who would turn up to watch a knock about in a car park so I'd be inclined to trust his assessment of players.

He's probably not shit all I'm saying is clamour to play him is based on nothing and don't say it's because of how he is in totally different format

Whilst I’m casting no aspersions on WHED’s ability to see and spot cricketing talent, it’s worth remembering that none of us (to my knowledge) have ever held down a position as a cricket selector/coach/scout at a professional county cricket club at any point - which I think is worth remembering when various posters start hoying players and coaches under the proverbial bus.

True. But if you're involved in a club I'm inclined to think you're more likely to be influenced by your personal relationship with that player and ephemera like how hard they practice etc than a fan who will simply judge on match performance,

we're not allowed to judge him on that apparently, nor his good performances for the seconds. the logic of chops.

Surely how hard a professional sportsman practices is worthy of consideration when selecting a squad......?

and a coach has a very big incentive to get selections right if he consistently doesn't he gets sacked and if he does he gets praised to high heaven. I'm sure the coaches are doing what they think is right.

Glad someone gets it Bri ;)
