Cattermole for England?

Cattermole might get a game for the Ivory Coast if he was Ivorian. He shouldn't and won't get a game for England.
He's played 16 times for England, under 21 mind, but! I'm sure he'd have done a job last night in our piss weak midfield.

His lack of pace and propensity to dive into challenges would see him burned alive at international level
Hasn't been a problem for Gary Medel.

England definitely need a defensive midfielder in front of the back four the way we are set up and other than Cattermole, who are the alternatives?

No we have more than our share of defensive players we need someone who can attack
We have players trying to be defensive midfielders and failing, Lampard, Wilshere and Barkley, all more attacking than defensive, Henderson is box to box but played in a holding role and Gerrard trying to do a job not suited to him either,

Regardless of his abilities and form I reckon his reputation means he will never get close to an England squad. He's seen as a walking red card, a leg breaker, a thug and a rubbish footballer, and any manager that picked him would be laughed at I reckon.

Didn't stop Ryan Shawcross getting a cap.

Mind he got absolutely torn to pieces by Ibrahimovic that night.

Sounds like Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard's performance last night was like one of Cattermole's poor displays where everything goes wrong for him.

Outpaced, misplaced ambitious passes, a reckless challenge and an error leading to a goal.

Gerrard is probably one of the dirtiest players in the league, but due to being England captain and the fact he plays for Liverpool means he gets away with murder.

He then proceeded to drive us on. I think the suggestion sounds ridiculous until you actually think about the other options for England, Cattermole is comfortably the best of them.
No, he isn't. And giving examples of weaker players in other teams doesn't cut it. Every single American player is worst than England's option, but they'd probably beat England. The problem is that this team just can't gel and every player is playing bad, none of them is showing their Premier league form and when Catts has a poor game he's a disaster. Thinking he'll be at his very best form while all the other England internationals are massively underachieving is just pure fantasy.

I wonder why this thread wasn't started after Hull away in fa cup?
Half a dozen admittedly very good games at end if season and he was getting compared to Roy keane by some on here!
Probably the same people who thought Colback, brown and Johnson should've been in England squad after mags game as well!:rolleyes:

Gareth Barry. Comfortably.

I wouldn't play either of them btw, as the 'defensive midfielder' role is completely outdated.

Been class for Everton like, played about as good as he ever has. I didn't think he'd hit that level again.

He was arguably England's worst player at Africa though in 2010, directly at fault for at least two German goals. The 4th when Ozil waltzed past him was embarrassing..

We can pick holes in any player any of us can come up with, we are poor.

England could certainly do a lot worse.

The one thing they lacked last night was someone who could press and harry Uruguay's players. Gerrard and Henderson playing as deep as they were was truly insipid.
Well there's me and there's Rita Fairclough but I'm struggling to think who else would be a lot worse.
This place is f***ing mental.

Roy Hodgson has tiny balls and therefore Cattermole will never play for England. The press will ensure Ginger Jack gets picked before him.
