He's played 16 times for England, under 21 mind, but! I'm sure he'd have done a job last night in our piss weak midfield.Cattermole might get a game for the Ivory Coast if he was Ivorian. He shouldn't and won't get a game for England.
No we have more than our share of defensive players we need someone who can attackWould you agree we need a midfielder who puts his foot in and who has drive? Which defensive midfielder would you have infront of him?
Hasn't been a problem for Gary Medel. His lack of pace and propensity to dive into challenges would see him burned alive at international level
We have players trying to be defensive midfielders and failing, Lampard, Wilshere and Barkley, all more attacking than defensive, Henderson is box to box but played in a holding role and Gerrard trying to do a job not suited to him either,No we have more than our share of defensive players we need someone who can attack

England definitely need a defensive midfielder in front of the back four the way we are set up and other than Cattermole, who are the alternatives?
Regardless of his abilities and form I reckon his reputation means he will never get close to an England squad. He's seen as a walking red card, a leg breaker, a thug and a rubbish footballer, and any manager that picked him would be laughed at I reckon.
Sounds like Steven Gerrard.
Gerrard's performance last night was like one of Cattermole's poor displays where everything goes wrong for him.
Outpaced, misplaced ambitious passes, a reckless challenge and an error leading to a goal.
No, he isn't. And giving examples of weaker players in other teams doesn't cut it. Every single American player is worst than England's option, but they'd probably beat England. The problem is that this team just can't gel and every player is playing bad, none of them is showing their Premier league form and when Catts has a poor game he's a disaster. Thinking he'll be at his very best form while all the other England internationals are massively underachieving is just pure fantasy. He then proceeded to drive us on. I think the suggestion sounds ridiculous until you actually think about the other options for England, Cattermole is comfortably the best of them.
Who?Hasn't been a problem for Gary Medel.

I wonder why this thread wasn't started after Hull away in fa cup?No, he isn't. And giving examples of weaker players in other teams doesn't cut it. Gareth Barry. Comfortably.
I wouldn't play either of them btw, as the 'defensive midfielder' role is completely outdated.
f***ing hell we've hit a new low...
What on earth could Cattermole add to the English National team?
Well there's me and there's Rita Fairclough but I'm struggling to think who else would be a lot worse.England could certainly do a lot worse.
The one thing they lacked last night was someone who could press and harry Uruguay's players. Gerrard and Henderson playing as deep as they were was truly insipid.
This will happen lads and lasses.![]()
