Cameron Jerome..

Another 3o year old with little or no resale value. And the fee is reported to be more than any club has paid for him previously. We have to stop buying players at their highest price and selling them at a loss or giving them away.
His record suggests 15 goals a season in this league. I am ok with this, if it happens

Would be very disappointed if we sold Jerome this summer. Firstly we've already sold two first-teamers for large sums (Howson - £5m / Murphy - £12m), the last thing we need to do is sell another, do all our players agents have properties in the North-East?

As for the player himself:

His main attribute is hard-work. Forget all the cliches about how every player should do that as a minimum, you won't see a striker work as hard in this division, chasing every lost cause. He's deceivingly quick for his age/stature, strong in the air, and by all accounts a likeable chap among the squad.

At this level, he's a great player and will guarantee you goals. He'll miss some shockers from time-to-time which is why he was/will never be good enough for the Premier League where you have to take your chances when they come. The reason we might sell, is he's now 30-years old and fighting for a spot with Nelson Oliveria, who's also been linked with a £8m move to Reading and Wolves, and seems to be just ahead of Jerome in the pecking order.

Bottom line, he would be a great signing for you in this division and perfect foil for Vaughan (who I also rated when he was with us but just too injury prone). I hope we don't sell.
Appreciate that mate.

To those complaining, please read this comment.

Thanks.

***Positive Post Alert***

I've always liked Cameron Jerome. He's a top end Championship player who has shown enough quality at times to suggest could be very effective in the PL, in the right set-up which plays to his strengths. Would be a very good signing for us at this moment in time.

Just so you know that my account hasn't been hacked: The downside is that he'd be a downgrade on any of our current forward players and I assume he'll only come in if one of them leaves.

We haven't got any forward players other than the two young lads, Watmore who's fucked and Vaughan who has just signed (and probably isn't as good as Jerome?)

We have spent less than a million f***ing quid man
If we were spunking big money on old players fair enough, but we have hardly put our hands in our pockets so far this year

That's fair, but it's not just the headline transfer fee. Players negotiate their wage based on current level of performance. Then they decline and we end up paying over the odds for players that we can't shift. For a club with such huge debts, signing players with no sell-on potential doesn't make sense.

Obviously our hands are tied and the the pool of players we can get is limited so the odd deal like this is fair enough. But giving multi-year contracts to loads of 30 year olds is sinking more money into the black hole

I've only seen him at St Johnstone for half an hour so I honestly can't comment. He looks strong and capable of letting others know where to be, but we need another to compliment him.
Not seen him at all, just going off what others have said. Looking forward to seeing him against Celtic hopefully.

I agree we need another CB like.

I take it this means McCormack' s wage demands / fee made it impossible. Of the strikers we've been linked with Jerome is probably at least on par if not better than the others.

Always looked awful when in the PL but his Championship record looks OK, it wouldn't be the worst signing but I'd much rather get a younger player who could improve and/or have a resell value.

I was referring to Lens and Whabi as I'm sure those are the ones likely to be peddled.

I'm a bit disappointed we're not trying to build a young squad for the future, but if we must get an older, experienced striker in, I'd say he fits the bill.
