I like him, will always get goals at this level and is big and strong. Obviously he's never gunna be able to make the step up from the championship though.

For the right price he would be a good signing

That's the thing, some players are just suited to this league and Jerome is one of them. I know he's not an exciting name but then neither were the likes of tommy smith / David connelly etc who did the business for us at various times in this division.
Agree mate. He is what you would label a "Championship Player"

I'd rather have him than Murphy

Great to see us loading up on players towards the end of their careers with no resale value. The only young ones in are on loan. Part of the reason that we are in such a state financially

We have spent less than a million f***ing quid man
If we were spunking big money on old players fair enough, but we have hardly put our hands in our pockets so far this summer

Agree with this, buy young and loan experience would be my mantra......

Good, young players cost a lot more than the £500k average price we are paying this summer.

Crazy, he's f***ing 30 what happened to this young team Grayson was going to build, more bullshit, this clubs f***ing mental.

It's all about putting a team on the pitch at the least possible cost....whether it finishes 6th or 16th is of no concern to Short. He's obviously done with the club despite all the talk of "a plan" and "will continue to support the club financially".

Another 3o year old with little or no resale value. And the fee is reported to be more than any club has paid for him previously. We have to stop buying players at their highest price and selling them at a loss or giving them away.

We need some nous up top mate. He's 31 next month on the back of 37 in 115 with Norwich. All sounds plausible to me

Would be very disappointed if we sold Jerome this summer. Firstly we've already sold two first-teamers for large sums (Howson - £5m / Murphy - £12m), the last thing we need to do is sell another, do all our players agents have properties in the North-East?

As for the player himself:

His main attribute is hard-work. Forget all the cliches about how every player should do that as a minimum, you won't see a striker work as hard in this division, chasing every lost cause. He's deceivingly quick for his age/stature, strong in the air, and by all accounts a likeable chap among the squad.

At this level, he's a great player and will guarantee you goals. He'll miss some shockers from time-to-time which is why he was/will never be good enough for the Premier League where you have to take your chances when they come. The reason we might sell, is he's now 30-years old and fighting for a spot with Nelson Oliveria, who's also been linked with a £8m move to Reading and Wolves, and seems to be just ahead of Jerome in the pecking order.

Bottom line, he would be a great signing for you in this division and perfect foil for Vaughan (who I also rated when he was with us but just too injury prone). I hope we don't sell.

I've never heard Grayson mention anything about a young team, only on here.

As much as a young team is a nice idea the idea we can go out and sign young players capable now is pie in the sky - we haven't got that kind of funding, in fact we've seemingly got very little funding at all right now. The only way we can do that is by bringing through our own or signing from lower levels and taking even bigger gambles. To do either you would still need a core of experienced players because the fanbase would not allow a manager the time to bring through young players and even if we did blood several young players they would fuck off as soon as a) a better offer came or b) we had to sell them anyway as the parachute funds don't last for ever.

Without large funds or an extremely good foreign scouting system in place a team of young good players at this level is simply not currently on the radar.

Depending on price I quite like the idea of singing Jerome. Always thought he was decent at this level, just lacks enough to step up. I'd have more confidence in a signing like this than I have in Vaughan, though they may work well together.
