The dividing wall in my back yard has a bush growing inside it. It sprouts gleefully out the top, and keeps pushing lumps of render out of the side with its roots and branches. Now there are bricks being dislodged from the top.
Is there any way to kill such a thing? I’ve tried setting it on fire but it just grew back.!
Added thousands to value of houseJapanese Knotweed. RIP the tree, wall, house, street, SR5 (Southwick).
Solid advice. What sort of acid do you recommend?Pour acid on it Dave xx

ooh, in that case...It’s often sold as a compost accelerator rather than a weed killer. I’ve got some in the shed.

Oh and Beirut last year of course, slipped my mind that. Warehouse full of ammonium nitrate left lying for 10 years or sonah, it's a weedkiller, but it tends to linger in soil for ages
You're thinking of ammonium nitrate, lots of lovely nitrogen to expand. Same stuff the paddies mixed with fuel oil and levelled Canary Wharf. That's a fertiliser
Bleach
I bet it does the trick though. Kills everythingWeed killer, carbon and sugar.
Dislodge a brick near the base of the trunk and roots.
Mix the above ingredients up equal measures and place in a copper pipe.
Make a home made fuse string soaked in petrol and run fuse through pipe.
Light and run for cover.
Sorted.
Should have enough stone to build a nice dry stone wall.
Any complaints about the loud bang just say it was the local gas works.
It’s a tree not a toilet
I bet it does the trick though. Kills everything
Buy some of this:
Drill holes in the accessible branches and roots and use the included pipette to inject the bush. It will die.
