Absolutely he would! Imagine him working with that cup winning team.I reckon if he managed us in the 70s we'd have won more than one FA Cup.

My Dad was there when we had our record attendance v Derby in the Cup in 1933, over 75,000 but he reckoned there was more. I asked him what it was like and will always remember what he said - 'Me feet nivah touched the grund for 90 minutes' and 'I could see the ball when it was up a height' - he died nearly 40 years ago, but I can hear him saying it now, lovely memory.Youve lived the dream mate. I cant even begin to imagine what it must have been like to witness Roker Park in the 60s
We'd have done what Forest did and definately would have gone beyond even that.I reckon if he managed us in the 70s we'd have won more than one FA Cup.
This.Looking back from afar, the time to get him was around late 1974 early 1975. Before he went to forest but there was no way Stokoe was being made to leave
Not sure if he was at Brighton around that time and he had fallen out with Taylor a bit
By that logic we’d have won the league and a couple of European cups. Canny. Why do you think that
How many did he win as a manager
None
Bloody freezing half of the timeYouve lived the dream mate. I cant even begin to imagine what it must have been like to witness Roker Park in the 60s
Behave. I was gannin from 1958Bloody freezing half of the time
Yes we did under CowieSaw this earlier today. Criminal that we never tried to get him to manage us.

Peter Taylor also gives the reasons why Brian Clough wouldn’t come to SAFC in his autobiography, nothing to do with takeover.Peter Taylor says in his autobiography that we did.
Can’t remember full details. Might have been dependent on a takeover or something.
Haven’t read the autobiography. What were the reasons? I’m guessing it would be along the lines of not wanting to fail at Sunderland? Not that I think he would have mind.Peter Taylor also gives the reasons why Brian Clough wouldn’t come to SAFC in his autobiography, nothing to do with takeover.
We did and he applied when Stokoe resigned. As I always put in here. My Mam was Collings PA at the time and opened his letter of application…Keith said “No”Saw this earlier today. Criminal that we never tried to get him to manage us.
If that’s true and I have no reason to not believe you, then that is absolutely criminal. Did she ever tell you the reasons beyond “no”?We did and he applied when Stokoe resigned. As I always put in here. My Mam was Collings PA at the time and opened his letter of application…Keith said “No”
The crowd kept you warm- this wasn't sittin in the north stand- it was hot and sweaty!Behave. I was gannin from 1958
Never cold once
Sorry Hank, I can't agree there. Him and Taylor would have been an ideal fit for Sunderland and, if backed by the chairman, could've built a legacy akin to Shankly or Ferguson did in the NW imho. Clough always spoke about his keenness to manage in the NE and we could/should have been to team he did it with. The timing was always horrible though and as some one else mentioned winning the Cup gave Stokoe an additional length of time in post when Clough was available.more likely Brighton. than Forest or derby
Was just having a look to refresh my memory and there are two quotes that refer to managing Sunderland:Peter Taylor also gives the reasons why Brian Clough wouldn’t come to SAFC in his autobiography, nothing to do with takeover.
