Bilbao Black Cats / Athletic Club Bilbao

Special day for the BIlbao Black Cats and a great atmosphere to go with it.

Resilient performance from the lads and could say we were unlucky not to nick the 3 points.

Good impression made on the newest local members of the Bilbao Black Cats who are already looking forward to the next meetup next month!

Ha'way the lads 🇵🇪

Tremendous 👍

Been to Bilbao a couple of times to catch a match at the sant Mames stadium a few years ago. Had a great time supporters were so welcoming.
Just wondering have they built a new ground?

No worries. It they want to meet up for a beer on Friday afternoon/evening, send me a pm and I'll give you my contact details.

The match in 1889 was between English sailors. However, one team was established and known as Barmston Rangers, which I'm trying to find out more information on and the other team consisted of sailors of different steam ships, one of them being the SS Dawdon registered in Sunderland and probably takes its name from Dawdon Colliery in Seaham.

Good article here about the early days of Athletic

A pal of mine is related to Angus Beattie who gets a few mentions. He’s digging around all sorts of places for info for a book he’s writing.

Ekaitz, Julen, Andoni, Adrián, Jack , Jonny, Mark and Lee gathered in Jonny's house in central Bilbao yesterday. Great result, tasty food, stunning location and fantastic company.

We spoke to a journalist this morning who is an Athletic Bilbao fan.

We did a presentation showing the links between the two cities and clubs (Google drive attachment below) and exposing the discrepancies of the Southampton shirt link and pushing the case for the Sunderland shirt link which seems more plausible.

Ekaitz from the Bilbao Black Cats introducing himself.

The lad is very passionate about us. Went to the Cardiff City game last month.

Hopefully him and some others from the branch will be over in April for the Birmingham or Hull game.

Some members of the branch went to Lezama training complex today and talked to some of the players about Athletic Club Bilbao and Sunderland AFC.

Had a chat with Iñaki Williams about Ghana, Sunderland and Asamoah Gyan. Also talked to Raul Garcia, Asier Villalibre, Óscar De Marcos, Dani Vivían, Mikel Balenziaga, Oier Zarraga, Jon Morcillo, Aitor Paredes & Oihan Sancet

Good day, players and fans alike were welcoming and willing to talk to us about Sunderland and Athletic.

Hope one day we can arrange a friendly in San Mamés as I know a few thousand at least would come over to see it.

Morning lads, my post to a twitter awards poll got deleted yesterday.

A Spanish Sports journalist and fan of Athletic Bilbao, Hadi Anani, has written a large piece on the Bilbao Black Cats and the links between Sunderland and Athletic Club Bilbao which will be released in the next few weeks in a well known Spanish football magazine.

I won't post the link as I think that's what the thread got deleted for but if you look for Bilbao Black Cats on twitter, you'll see the post with the linked awards poll.

8 hours to go and Hadi is currently 2nd and 8% behind.

Ha'way the good old SMB! 🇵🇪
