I Almost always get the train to the city centre.

A68 via Ponteland and Carter Bar if I have to drive. Less traffic and more scenic.

2.5 hours of driving through lovely countryside or 1.5h on the train with at least half an hour each side. The train is also usually full of piss heads too.
