Away tickets - Loyalty points . . .

It’s amazing on how there was no mention of a ballot for Plymouth, Swansea and Cardiff away last season.
I agree. And btw i did two of those 3 away trips last season. Just trying to come up with a solution that might go some way to stopping tickets being bought and passed on.

I was in the one and only ballot we ran for Portsmouth away - went so well that everyone who applied got a ticket (and tickets went back to Portsmouth iirc showing the ballot was pointless in the first place)

I really should stop getting involved in these threads as its the same things over and over again

Expect to see them all rehashed again next week when Leeds goes on sale which everyone will fancy when it's an hour and half down the road but a six hour trip to Swansea in December last year was radio silence

Don't think you will ever stop it fully to be honest

The ID checks are a good start for me but the whole ballot idea stinks a bit to me

I only have 42 points and it's taken a lot of time, effort and money to build those up as a family of three

The thought of missing out on away tickets to a zero point season ticket holder who only fancies it because we are now in the PL really pisses me off

Also, a ballot ain't a magic wand that people think it is - probably thousands of applicants for a few hundred tickets so you'd be lucky to get a couple a season. What solutions will people want applying if they apply for 19 ballots and are unsuccessful in all of them?

Pointless. All 36k just get 19 extra points. Just moves the number for everyone

That can get in the f***ing bin
I do know a couple of people who don't really bother with home games and basically have a season ticket just for away ones, but even then I imagine they'll be going more now we're in the PL. So if they did it by games actually attended it could slightly help people who turn up, but I expect 99+% of away regulars also go to the home ones, so it would have so little effect it's meaningless.

And again, these threads just show there's no real consensus so it's hard to argue for a change. Some want smaller drops, meaning fewer people get their hands on tickets. Others want it to stay the same. Some want a ballot. Some want averaging to come back (I think that makes tickets more a case of who you know than whether you deserve them, but a few people have mentioned it)

Ultimately the club have heard it all before. They've considered other options and it's pretty certain nothing will change especially when it's the first season there's been real supply and demand issues. They'll track it. If we're 3 seasons in and no one currently in phase 3 can get a chance of a handful of aways a season then they'll probably try something but it's too early at the minute, especially given the lack of any majority consensus behind any individual change

Good point. Im in a very similar situation to you with a similar amount of points.
You're right it does really piss you off when you see photos of supporters on their way to away games, West Ham for example with the caption 'first away game'.

All I was trying to suggest was a system that id seen work relatively well at another club, I realise its not a solution for everyone nor can you please everyone.

Reality is just have to apply for whatever we're able to apply for and hope for the best this season I guess.

50% of allocated amount to STH with 70+ (65/60 could be set at whatever level) points. 50% plus anything leftover from above phase into a ballot system STH only with a deadline to enter the ballot.

Mate of mine is a Man Utd STH and this is along the same lines as what they do. Out of the ballot this season hes had City, Spurs and Arsenal. Usually get between 15k and 20k in the ballot per game.

And whoever makes the point 'wasn't like this in League 1' spare a thought for those that did the hard yards in L1 but lost a load of loyalty points in the 3 season cull at the beginning of this season. There'll be a few who did the undesirable aways in L1 who've got no chance of a PL away game under the current system.
I personally think any ballot is unfair.

Current system is fine, just need to set phase 1 correctly so people can plan travel in advance, reduce the points gap between phases and be stringent on ID checks / passing on tickets.

Points cull affects everyone, including those in phase 1 now. If they wanted a chance now they should have kept attending so they would be in phase 1 now.

Interesting that people haven't suggested capping our season tickets to 25k or 50% capacity and putting the rest to a ballot to give newcomers a chance for the big home games now we are back in the Premier League and selling out at home..

Agreed, anyone who’s only had a ST for this season should go into a ballot for next year.

There is a cap on season tickets, you have to leave 10% of tickets available for match days, for this very reason.

I understand that, but the 10% home cap didn't affect any existing loyal ST holders.

However a cap on away tickets to run a ballot would affect those loyalty ST holders who have built up points over the years.

It would, and we don't need it yet. But if the demand continues the way this season has they'll have to look at it.

Also I don't think the demand will there next year for all games. Yes the big games will sell out early but that was the same in the Championship

Brighton took a while to sell in phase 3, West Ham needed a phase 4
Only solution is that anybody who went to Roker Park gets away tickets first. Half price.
Only if you were there for Benno v Speedie (shit - that doesn't really help)

Before I start I will confirm that I think our loyalty system is SUPERB, fair (apart from the point I’m making later on!!) and rewards loyalty . . .

I feel like I can raise this, having managed to get the tickets we needed for both Oxford and Bournemouth, so it’s not sour grapes. Having a couple of tickets in the high 60’s we are pretty much guaranteed tickets for the rest of the season.

So - what needs changing -

Only one thing, the loyalty points at each phase should be much closer for games where tickets are limited or where there'll be an obvious high demand.

Could RAWA raise this with the club @Becs . . . Is there a reason they have such huge gaps, is it to try and get tickets to different people??

The gaps for Oxford and Bournemouth should have been 70/65/60/55 etc

With the Mags game coming up surely the points should be closer for each phase.
Two things would come from reducing the gap between thresholds. It would be more of a closed shop, and it would be more for the club to manage. The club wouldn't want either.

I hate to break it to you but with the current system, you currently miss out to people who don’t live in the area and don’t even have a season ticket.

Excellent. The younguns, who are the future of our support, need to be at away games.

Stop the oldies who only want to get the points when someone else spends the coin, while they choose the glamour games.
