Mistakes are made and have been made for years by both players and refs.

Players miss open goals, and make horrendous mistakes that cost teams big games.

And refs make big mistakes that cost teams games always happened always will.

That doesn’t mean players or refs are dishonest?

That’s just football , going down the legal route is farcical

If you read the club’s statement, they are not looking to go down the legal route or change things.

There is no complaint is, out of 10 refs yesterday, why were we allocated the 2nd least experienced ref when so much was at stake.

And incompetence is far greater that just a mistake.

We’ve had it rammed down our throats all season that play should be allowed to continue. There is no point in having VAR if this happens.

I’d like to see an appeal and legal challenge to the decision if possible, only to set a precedent.

I dont see why offsides shouldn't be flagged immediately.

If there's an offside, and you dont flag straightaway then player and keeper come together. You could feasibly have one of the situations, which would be totally avoidable.

1) player and keeper collide resulting in an injury and a forced substitution.
2) keeper taking out the striker clumsily and being sent off.
3) striker scores only for it to be ruled out anyway

As far as im aware, referees dont allow teams to play advantage from offside. So I would say it should be flagged. Of course the issue is that you flag, the offside is given, then a replay rules the striker was onside.

But VAR has overcomplicated everything now so every "what if" situation is now an issue. This over complication is spoiling the game in my opinion. I can see a time when linesmen are replaced be technology to be honest

#2 wouldn't happen if VAR shows it was offside, for example Martinez yesterday if Hojlund was offside.

#4 a legitimate goal is scored whereas on 100s of occasions in the past the linesman's instant flag killed the attacking move.

This is what some can't grasp as being the main reason why play is allowed to continue.

Same here with control. Obviously, the goalkeeper is not in control of the ball in the narrow sense of holding it. But the laws also say that he is deemed in control of the ball in other cases including when “the ball is between the hands or between the hand and any surface (e.g. ground, own body) or by touching it with any part of the hands or arms except if the ball rebounds from the goalkeeper or the goalkeeper has made a save”. Which seems to describe the case here at the time the challenge came in. He’s already touched it with his hand and it’s still between his hands.

Overprotected goalkeeper? Very probably. Foul as the law stands? Looks like it to me. Not clearly and obviously not one anyway whatever “common sense” might suggest even if VAR could have intervened.

Not for me but I can understand why the ref thought what he saw but it's a bit baffling why he blew so quickly.

I think the rule for the keeper being 'in control' which the keeper clearly wasn't yesterday as the ball bounced between his hands and when Rogers got a toe on the ball the keeper wasn't even touching it as it 'rebounded' off him as he didn't have anything on the ball.
