Any Other School Staff Going On Strike?

I’m bored of repeating this now but no teacher is refusing to work. They’re saying they don’t feel safe in these current conditions.

They’re going to be told tonight that children won’t be able to come into school. Teachers are working from home and will be moving lessons to remote learning. The government have decided this now (or will) and it’s not teachers’ faults (sorry.)

I simply don't believe him for one second. Even the biggest self-loathing arsehole ever to step in a staff room would have some modicum of sympathy for what teachers are going through right now. Strikes me as just another person with a bee in his bonnet over the perceived free ride educators are apparently getting.

That's the same as my son, he has autism and if I just left him alone he would never do the work he is set. This is on top of looking after my disabled daughter who now won't be going back to college either. It's a total nightmare.

I think that the idea is that kids are often symptom-less or suffer less than other groups, but many teachers are potentially in higher risk groups.

It’s also increasing the chance of higher infection rates when the germ ridden brats infect adults who may have to interact with e.g. elderly relatives.

Kids -> teaching staff —> society

I know of a teaching assistant who has chosen to attend work even though she has asthma and could have argued that she is at high risk of infection. Other people have stayed off work when they are in ‘low risk’ groups. It isn’t fair to stereotype an entire profession.

I think the big thing we’re all failing to grasp here is quite simply:

- The NHS is getting to capacity
- SAGE have published advice to suggest that the R level cannot remain below 1 with schools open
- Lots of communities (and the ones who are going back to school ironically) have had a day free for all where they could mix.

This is the reason at 8pm tonight schools will be shut to children (we suspect) but learning moved to remote and online which I’m sure will be stipulated.

And breathe.

Yes mate it would’ve been easier to extend the Christmas break for at least 2 weeks.

I appreciate that but to stamp their feet and refuse to work when others have to is a disgrace. Other key workers have to work and how will it ever be safe in the teachers eyes for them to return?? Its my opinion and others I have spoken to today at work feel the same. I think all key workers should do the same to see what happens to the country. Hope they dont expect a salary at the end of the month
 
I'd be going in if I worked in a school, this may have major repercussions for how school children are taught in the future.

Wasn't copied and pasted at all it's my opinion. I don't hate education as I'm all for it but as I've said if all key workers downed tools there would be pandemonium. Those refusing to work should not be paid a salary...simple.

I think the big thing we're all failing to grasp is that some people are simply jealous of teachers.
