AN Press conference - CANCELLED

This press conference won’t happen. There is no way the club will put someone else in front of the press and Neil won’t want to answer questions either. It will be cancelled

An optimistic take on things might be this.

Stoke have asked for permission to speak to AN and it’s a condition of his contract that he can speak to clubs who make an approach this way.

The talks haven’t taken place yet.

Once Stoke revealed their interest the owners here schedule an emergency meeting with AN this morning in order to thrash out a new deal to ensure he stays.

No idea what’s going on but here’s hoping..
Good to have a bit of optimism on the rollercoaster of supporting Sunderland.

1 defeat in around 20 league games and that was to one of the favourites away from home and 10 men for over an hour. And the opp were happier with the FT whistle.

Sometimes a manager suits a club and AN seems well suited here.
Pretty much nail on head. Wasn't anyone first choice. But for whatever reason he's a good fit and in typical Sunderland style will probably end up short lived. Hopefully we don't make a moyes appointment who undoes the momentum in a couple of weeks and also the board have their next man in quickly so that the coaches don't undo the good work (which happened last season)

A lot more going on behind the scenes for the club to give him permission to speak to Stoke. Breakdown between manager and owners for this to happen imo. He’s as good as gone regardless now!

Yes I would.

He's mentioned it himself, the route the club want to go down. He knows and knew what the job was. If he leaves then it's of his own accord. Even if he's asked to talk to Stoke I'd move him on.

Who’s the so-called “happy clapper” for the club today?

If it's any consolation, when playing football manager 22, my hotshot assistant, Alex Baptiste, always got headhunted by clubs, I always told him I wanted him to stay but allowed him to talk to clubs.

He told me he respected my understanding and always came back. This was at Exeter too if that helps
Could be a savvy shout as next manager mate. Baptiste sounds quality

I want this to be true

It’s the backwards step. I just don’t understand it.

Even if he signs a new deal and this was just a ploy he will be semi-tarnished amongst us now. I remember Rooney doing so at Man Utd and his reputation never properly recovered.

It is just so depressing. The second things look good they turn to shit overnight. I can’t comprehend what is going through Neil’s head. Was really looking forward to Norwich too.
Let's hope it's just leverage to get a better deal. It's not like KLD and his lingering cohorts are too willing to give him a long term deal and upset the business model- therein lies the problem. Rigid structures designed to keep the boat afloat but unwilling to venture into unchartered waters.Limited ambition.
