Alan Brazil talksport

That's fine. So when your daughter is talking about playing football, as a father, would you continually remind her that it will never be as good/big/popular as the mens sport? Or would you simply discuss women's football and encourage her to take it up if she wants to?
Of course you wouldn't, but this is a weird take on the context of the original post.

Most people have no interest in it, that's true.

As I said earlier, 94K were logged on the BBC website for the men's league cup game last night. 6K for the women's game. 15x more interest in the men's game.

It's a minority sport.
To add context to this, both games were league cup semi finals.

Imagine saying that bollocks to a young kid! You are crackers

Not word for word but you have to break the truth at some stage.
I’d be telling them it’s’ not about money, it’s about trying to become the number 1 in your chosen sport, the motivation should be love and enjoyment not money.

I suppose the only way for a women to earn the same amount as Cristiano Ronaldo is to aim for true equality.
Once you have women competing in the same teams as men…then the they would be paid massive wages progress they are earning it bringing in the revenue.

I didn't.

It doesn't hold my interest at all.

Mind I only really watch the home nations at the major championships too.
17.4 million watched the women's final. I'd say that's significant interest.

Wonder if it's the same 17.4 that voted for brexit :)

Still makes no sense why people would be logged into the bbc website for the Liverpool game.
?

People were at work, out and about or like me just checking the score out of a passing interest.

It's the BBC sport website, it's what it's for!
Aaaaah. You said both games were on terrestial tv. They weren't really.
Er they were both free to air. Splitting hairs.

So the next question is why aren’t a small proportion of these people attending matches.

Actually Arsenal are the one successs story, they are easily the best supported team in world football currently averaging 28K.
The next best supported team is Chelsea averaging just over 10K. Most teams in the women’s top flight average 2K and 3K.

So how to you turn interest into paying customers? Arsenal have done it, so it shows it’s possible.

Are you on the wind up?

It’s essential that you teach your kids reality and not fairy stories.
You’d explain that the market decides what people are paid, the general rule is supply and demand, otherwise the economy breaks down.
Think you thought process is dangerous for future society if every thing should be equal regardless of merit.
What’s the point in striving to be the best? Or think of ways to boost turnover/ profit if that person doesn’t benefit.
Jack Grealish was sold for £100M with a salary to match.

The other week a women's player went for £1M.

Why are they not being paid the same? 🤣

And?

It's like me saying loads of more people would have watched the Sunderland match on ITV rather than ITV4 compared to the Liverpool game on ITV. It's irrelevant.

It has nothing to do with those viewings the BBC website!

100 years ago they were telling that to women who wanted to be Doctors

I went on the BBC main football website last week and the headline was “Chelsea break world record transfer fee”

For a split second I’m thinking back the Abramovich era when they had money to burn, thinking has Chelsea bought Neymar Jnr or maybe Bellingham.
I was keen to read the report to see who Chelsea had bought.

Then I read the detail and instead of buying Neymar Jnr for £250 million
they’ve bought some unknown American women for £1 million. Felt like I’d been had. I’m sure the BBC do this deliberately ha ha.

You said both games were on terrestrial tv, not me. You are arguing with yourself. They weren't both on terrestrial tv, I was just pointing this out

Eeeeh, that's awful that. Bet you were devastated

oh mate come on

"Can I earn the same money as Cristiano Ronaldo one day Dad?"

They don't have the same chances. That isn't even open for debate.
They’ve got the same chances to progress to the top of their chosen sport - women’s football. I’m not talking about money. If they’re not happy about the money on offer and that is their motivation - which again is dictated by market forces - then choose a different occupation.

Best of luck to the lasses playing football but I have no interest in the Women's League.
Careful, @AmblerThorn will be along to call you a woman hating, racist, reform voting bigot in a minute for simply stating you have no interest in it, despite the fact you mean no harm to it at all, nor would you have any opposition for it flourishing in the public eye and would be happy for those partaking.

No I wouldn’t, I would want her to enjoy what she wants to enjoy. But when she started to give women’s football far more relevance that it commands in the world of football, I would point that out to her.
