4 day break in that London…

Fully recommend the Sky Garden. It is free, just book ahead as it sells out. There's no dress code and it isn't fancy. You can get a coffee or a beer if you fancy, but equally can just have a look at the view, enjoy a sit down and then leave. Booking your visit - Sky Garden - London

If the kids like a bit of history, they'll enjoy the Roman temple of Mithras in the City of London. It'll kill half an hour or so, it's not very big. Free to visit but you need to book. London Mithraeum

The Museum of London is great as well, good for kids. Bairns can see the Olympic torches and the thing that held the flame during the games. Plus there's all sorts about culture, music, fire of London, plague etc. It's free but you need to book. Museum of London | Free museum in London

There's always things going on around the Southbank too. Walk east across Westminster Bridge and then follow the Thames around to Tower Bridge. There's tons of places to eat and drink on the way and the views are brilliant. Definitely stop to watch the skaters do their thing outside the Southbank centre.

For something a bit different, if the weather is nice then the Olympic Park out in Stratford is a lovely place to walk around and good for kids. You can go and have a peak at West Ham's stadium which sounds like it might be of interest to the little ones. You could even go up the Orbit and do that daft slide they've got there now! Easy to get to from central London, just hop on the Jubilee line and then follow the signs. There's a Westfield there too with tons of places to eat and drink.
Thanks for all that, much appreciated

We’ve just came back. We did

Camden
Harry Potter world (25 mins on train from Euston to Watford then a shuttle bus)

Science Museum
Buckingham Palace/Green Park

Tower of London
London Eye
Covent Garden
Piccadilly Circus on the evening

Covent Garden again
Oxford street

Was class. Spent our Jet2 refund for a 10 night holiday and all our spends in 4 days. Well worth it though.
Venturing down in couple weeks with the misses and our 11 year old son. His first visit to the capital and with the exception of Harry Potter World he wants to see everywhere on your list amongst others.

Definitely a boat trip to Greenwich for one day then take the DLR back into town. Loads to do there (museums, observatory, market, Cutty Sark, some decent pubs) and it doesn't feel like you are in London.

Now is a great time to go to London as it's not too busy - hardly any overseas business visitors and tourists - and there are some fantastic deals to be had on hotels. Just be aware that some of the museums are doing pre-booked timeslots to control numbers. This is a good thing as it avoids the usual crowds.

On museums I’ve booked all ours in advance

I've grabbed free tickets for the Sky Garden for our trip personally. Don't think its worth paying £100 for a family of four to the Shard when I can be across the river and still getting great views for free.

done both today, we had tea in the sky garden which was a anniversary treat, went to the Darwin restaurant which was fantastic. The view from both was amazing today and having different perspectives from across the river was nice. We used a bluelight discount for the shard which brought it down to around £70, however, drinks up there were on par with other high end tourist locations, £20 for a bottle of lager and g&t.

We were in the Sky Garden mid morning. Very impressive views

aye it’s been a good day for views, nice clear sky unlike the last few days on off pissing down.

Ha ha aye, Monday we got a good window of weather when on a boat down the Thames. But then got caught in downpours as we got off the Cable Car things at the Docklands. Drowned days by time got back to.hotel

Took my daughter when she was 12. We did the walk around the usual places, Buck Palace, HOP, Trafalgar Square etc plus the London eye on the Friday followed by Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in the West end, took her to QPR v Sunderland on the Saturday followed by the IMax and then we did Covent Garden on the Sunday for the street entertainers, but the best thing we did was the duck tour. Do that.

Just do the Duck tour, she loved it.

we caught a good spot of weather last night for the cable cars, had tea next to cutty sark then jumped on an Uber boat to North Greenwich and got a cable car back across. It was still bucketing down when we walked for bait from the bottom of the hill by Greenwich observatory.

Just booked up for the weekend before Christmas: £230 quid for two rooms, three nights at the Premier Inn Kensington (it'll be clean enough, it's on two tube lines, and we'll only be using it to put our heads down). Just have to wait for the cheap train tickets to become available. Love a bit of London, especially at Christmas time.
