When did I say they didn't? By your logic of only match winning knocks mattering, we can remove Crawleys 250 from the records.

At no time have you reconsigned the briilant knock, he played in winning that test, you have described it as a ok knock in a previous post, and a 50, totally missing the point that he came in when team under massive pressure in the fourth innings of a match where he and Woakes not only won the match but changed the tactics brilliantly to win that game.

You have described Woakes knock as great and Buttlers knock as ok! when both performed equally brilliantly in that test.

Surely you have to accept innings played in that circumstances are excellent knocks and give credit to them both.

The diffrence between you and me mate is I am saying it was a close call and would have been fair enough for Crawley to win it and congratulated him, as he played nothing short of superb in the last test.

Where as when Buttler has won it, as through the whole threads you have refused to just say will done mate, and come out, with nonsense like most biased vote you have ever seen!

Every other single person on these threads who have critcised Buttler in the past have now come out and said I am pleased for the lad and for England as he has stepped up when under pressure.

The only person who hasn’t is you.

I have come to the conclusion you either on one big wind up over this last week ( which would be sad in itself)

Or you just such a sad individual that you can’t just say well done to a player who under pressure whichever you look at it as had a very good series.

It's no real surprise to see MS Dhoni retire when Jos is putting in performances like this, he knew his time was up at the top level.

Anyone know how England's greatest ever keeper Ben Foakes and Surrey got on today?
Your satire is hilarious but, since you asked, Surrey lost narrowly but Foakes top scored. But, being serious, it looks as if Pope may have suffered another dislocation of his shoulder. Is this an opportunity for Buttler to be selected as a batsman and Foakes coming in as 'keeper, particularly with forthcoming series being on the subcontinent?

See, I hate this idea personally. As well as he has done I don’t see Buttler as a specialist bat. In the long, tedious thread I said I don’t mind him keeping at 7. That’s ok still I think (now he has found form), but he’s never a specialist bat surely?

Stokes replaces Pope at 5 is the first move. And then it’s balance of the side. I still think you have 6 batsmen (inc Stokes), keeper still 7 and 4 bowlers.

Cheers. Doesn’t count if they lost.

Assuming a subcontinent tour goes ahead I’d have no problem with Foakes back in the England side.

Can’t take the gloves off Buttler though so Foakes plays as a specialist batsman, most likely at 7.

Foakes as a specialist batsman? Haway, if Foakes is in the team he keeps and he should be in the side imo

Yeah I think that too, still see Buttlers role as coming in down the order and scoring quick runs when England have had a good start in a similar way Prior did, diffrence is it happened a lot where Prior came in after good start, where Buttler quite often has been at the crease too early when team in trouble.

Prior was a better bat than Buttler, but it was never considered as far as I remember for Prior to play as a speaclist batsman, even when he his keeping was poor when he started.

Buttler should never had been five in the Ashes.

100% agree

I wasn’t being entirely serious.

It’s a nice problem to have I guess.

Shame if Pope’s out for a while, his form’s not been great this summer, but he would most likely benefit from playing games, although it does open the door for others.

I actually think Pope looks a class player.

With everyone fit, a side right now looks like

Burns (form aside)
Sibley
Crawley
Root
Stokes
Pope
Buttler (deserves to continue)

and then 4 bowlers from Wood, Archer, Anderson, Broad, Woakes and a spinner

I don’t think Curran offers enough yet (if you’re putting your keeper at 7), and I haven’t a clue who the spinner is

Fair enough. Tours to the subcontinent are tricky though, batting wise you essentially need to pick your 6 best players against spin. I wouldnt be surprised to see Jennings playing again as they rate him against spin. Spinning options looking weak at the moment though

Eh? So who have you batting at 6? We

Could pick 3 spinners. Moeen back into the fold at 7 with Leach and Bess.

Mind oddly more noise about Rashid than moeen.

I think that first 7 picks itself tbh, taking into account any other options which are simply not there imo.

I am concerned with Sibley in the sub-continent like, if teams put a spinner on early, I think he will really struggle to score tbh.

Fantastic. It’s amazing how much this pisses you off. Woakes’ knock was better as he is a bowler not a batter yet was the dominant player in the partnership. Likewise Crawley was dominant in their partnership. Just remember the fact is that Buttler will drop catches and cost us games
