Re: Photos inspired by the Monthly Competition

Thats really lovely and fits the bill so well too, its a pity. How do you do it?

Thanks. Yep, tripod and a long-ish exposure - not that long like, just 2 seconds.

It's from that fair they had in the carpark of Charlestown Shopping Centre back in April.

Keep on waiting for the fair to come to the National Showgrounds near the airport - there are more places there to set up without getting in people's way. Think it comes in late Summer from memory.

Re: Photos inspired by the Monthly Competition

I cant do the exposure thingy on an ordinary digital camera can I?

Re: Photos inspired by the Monthly Competition

According to the manual, that camera has a full manual mode and also has a self timer, so yes, you should be able to do it.

You can manually configure all functions
aperture value and shutter speed.
How to use the Manual mode ( ¸ )
1. Select the MANUAL mode by rotating the
mode dial.
2. Press the Fn button and menu for the
shutter speed and aperture value will
display.
Up / Down button : changes aperture
value
Left / Right button : changes shutter
speed.
3. Press the Fn button twice and take an
image.

Smaller Aperture values make the object sharp but blur the
background. Larger Aperture values make both the object and
background sharp.

High Shutter speeds can capture a moving object in a still image
as if the object is not moving. Low Shutter speeds can capture a
moving object with an ‘active’ effect.

You'll need a small tripod too - I bought a mini one from a €2 shop, does the trick.

Long exposures shots mean that moving stuff is blurred while static stuff isn't - look especially good when the moving stuff is illuminated. Pretty easy once you figure out your camera's setting, good fun too.

This is probably what I would have submitted if there were no date rules.

No idea what to actually submit just yet.

That's a cracker that mate - how did you do it?

Oops just read the post above - forget that mate

This set is the best I have taken so far this month (all today).

Not happy with any of them!

Really like the third one mate but have to ask - did you save him or leave him to drown?

Can't figure out what it is

C&C appreciated.

bastard, bastard, bastard - i thought I'd finally had an original idea for the compo but you've gone and done it with your death star.

back to zee drawink board :-(

P.S. love the death star one - how did you manage to shoot it like that/ After spening the last hour n the garden with the tripod and our lasses hairdryer and a million different settings I don't think I managed one as good as that.

And would love to know how many shots you took and over how long a time to get te dos in focus and in acton. I've took about 50 this month and they are either out of focus or show the dogs arse going out frame

P.P.S. Your entry is top notch but have no idea what it is that's shooting out of the bag - brilliant pic for the theme mind!!

With both it was a case of setting focus to continuous, then shooting in burst mode. Shot both with a Nikon 60mm 2.8, which helped - it's probably the sharpest lens I own. The Death Star one was tricky, and the dog one was a bit of a fluke.

I took probably around 100 or so unusable shots in getting these, but let's not talk about them. ;)
