Here's the keeper situation from my POV

Roefs - No.1 next year if we keep him, undoubtedly.
Ellborg - No.2 next year
Patto - Sell, but not due to him not being good enough to be No.2. I think he is currently better than Ellborg but he can't go back to being a No.2 when his stock is reasonably high following good loan spell at Millwall.
Young - Championship loan
Cowan - A full year in U21s with a non league loan for 1-2 months at back end of season.

Aye. Great to get championship next year. Think if he does though he might have to fight for the position which can go either way for a young lad but he has the ability to be a championship number one. Watched a lot of him this season including in person at salford

This is a good shout. It’s obvious that ellborg is completely out of depth with the pace of the game. He want to take two seconds more and is often exposed.
He will soon out that behind him as he grows to the game.

Pattison didn’t do much wrong, however, he didn’t win us points. In the championship keepers win team points.
He was replaced by a keeper who wins games by outstanding overall performances and we didn’t see that in patto consistently throughout the season hence why he is not currently with us.
He also wasn’t tested with a consistent back up. He put weight on during the season which was noticed by all. It appeared he became complacent.
Be interesting his next move. Wish him well though.

Patto did make match winning saves. No better example than the playoff final. I’d go as far as to say that he’s capable of saves that none of the rest of them can match. The one against Ipswich the other week was genuinely astounding. However I think you nailed it that Roefs wins us points by being such a strong all-round keeper. He has very few weaknesses. For what we are now as a club it’s such an important foundation. Last thing on Patto, it’s not that he’s bad with ball at feet as he’s often tagged on here. He’s just overconfident in my view.

For Young, you have to imagine that next year is at least one year too early for his pal prospects. Means that losing Roefs in the summer would be extra awkward. Hopefully Ellborg makes a leap over the summer and at least functions as a solid bridge for a year or two.

He did win us points. He also won us the play off final. That save from Moore early in particular was ridiculous.

Theres negatives ro his game but not making world class reaction saves to win games is not one of them

Hahaha wheres this came from that I dont like local lads doing good? No I dont like playing players who are clearly not ready for the PL just because theyre local lads, and therefore endangering the jobs of tens if not hundreds of staff members who also happen to be local lads and lasses.

I’m sorry but Patterson wasn’t even a top championship keeper, he needed to be replaced, his strength/speed coming for crosses was woeful and did actually cost us points, im sorry that your memory eludes you but im more than happy to bring video evidence. There’s nothing wrong with him having a championship career, but to just wantonly “give a go” to a player in the most competitive league in the world just because they’re a local lad is cloud cuckoo shit.

I’m sure in this hypothetical that if we got relegated, one of the lasses being sacked off thought “whey it doesnt matter yanar because Patto got given a go”
 
Elberg is a kid who no experience and a lot of potential.

Patto is a miles better option to play in goal at this moment in time.

There should be two options with Patto:

1) Stay and be second choice
2) Sell for a decent fee

Not sure the merit in loaning him out unless there was a an option or likelihood to make it permanent.

Think I'll support the club on this one as they seem to rate elborg better than patto which is what I also think, don't get me wrong patto is a very good championship player but will never make it in the PL.
Elborg is the better keeper

I don’t think we have seen anywhere enough of Mellborg to make that judgement yet. He’s done reasonably well but hasn’t immediately stood out like Roefs in terms of ability.

Made some good saves and looks comfortable enough. Roefs looks absolutely outstanding tbf, which is why he's beinv linked to big clubs.and will have a better career overall.

I think Ellborg will also have a fine career and Patterson will be good enough for top end championship.

This thread is supposed to be about Matty Young thpugh.

I swear the hardest job in football is to be the back up/ replacement to an outstanding player/ players.

A young keeper when we beat the mags at Al-Qiddīs Yaʿqūb park in one of his first games in English footy is actually canny impressive start when you think about it.

Actually thinking about it, his current away record in the prem is played 2 won 2, 1 clean sheet, at Leeds and the Saudis, many a player has crumbled in those circumstances
