Durham v Kent (h) C.C. ( 3/4/26)

Marty:

Umpires have said there will be no play before tea, which is scheduled for 3.40pm. They may well call it off for the day after that.Although we have a stiff wind, they say it’s a cold wind and not really helping to dry things up.

You know the answer already 🤪

The pavements around the ground are usually a good judge of the moisture within the field given our international calibre drainage.

It wasn’t as though we had rainfall worthy of building an ark. It must be dry by now 🤷‍♂️
pavements are dry within half an hour of rain stopping even after a deluge but I'd agree it's now ideal drying conditions.
Dips his head and looks away from the ball at point of delivery. Troy Cooley said he'd have a stress fracture if he kept doing this, ironically he had a stress fracture in the remodelled action, also lost 10 mph of pace so switched back.

Can you imagine what contemporary England coaches would make of Frank Tyson?
I'd prefer to imagine Tyson's reply to such coaches.

A cold wind in the first week of April...what's the chances of that?🤔

From what I understand the wind blew the cover in such a way that it dumped a whole load of water on the pitch, soaking it rather than wetting it. I'm sure the wind will dry the top surface. It will create a crust. If a ball hits a crust which is supported by wet mush, you can imagine what happens. I think it needs to dry to a certain depth.

Whole thing has been a mess, could cost Durham a win if they dont get some overs tonight. Big wind and virtually no rain all day ..... get on with it !!

It’s us who will be disadvantaged if the wicket is wet, so why not just crack on if our lads want to play 🤷‍♂️
The umpires have been right fannies in this game
They've been off and on and quicker than Katie Prices knickers
If a cloud no bigger than my thumbnail has blotted out the sun for half a second they have been quicker than Usain Bolt in rushing off.
IMO of course

The early finish on Day 1 was an absolute joke. 9 balls to bowl, not a cloud in the sky, but because there was a shadow on the pitch they went off.

Because that’s not how cricket works as I’m sure you know. The umpires need to make a reasoned judgement on the state of the pitch, everyone here is just pissed because it’s holding up a Durham win.

I wouldn’t be so sure, listen to the latest Stick to Cricket podcast - plenty times when they’ll just get on with it despite the pitch being damp.

Inspection was due 8 minutes ago, have they bothered?
