Points needed to stay up

People saying 42 are crazy. West Ham would need to win their next 2 to get above 1 point per game, then they'd need to maintain it. Then even if they do get to 42, Forest, Leeds, Palace and Spurs would all need to get 1 ppg from the remaining fixtures. That would be incredible.
 

I see us getting at least 4 draws and 1 or 2 wins.

It's a worry that apart from Brobbey we've got nowt going forward. Need to address in the summer or I think next season will not go as well.
 
Can see Hammers improving their form to match w current 16-17th place teams and the group finishing about 2 - 3 point better than 1 PPG. So after 38 matches this group has 40 - 41 points. A big change from the previous campaign.
 
Best case and If all goes very well. Looking at the fixtures I’ve got WH picking up another 20 points.
Very much doubt they get all thing their own way so maybe 15.
One win should do it.
But 38 min will stay up….

Wolves and Burnley at home. Forest away (+ Brighton)in the next 4. Should take the pressure off (or really put it on)

Hardly surprising though is it? :lol:

Looking at the league this year from a neutral perspective it must be one of the most evenly competitive for years, when you see how tight it is. Whilst a bit of nervousness and negativity may have crept in about our form (mostly due to losing half our team due to AFCON that also coincided with a very tough run of fixtures), at the same time we are also just 3 points behind Liverpool in 6th and 4 off Chelsea in 5th.

Well the team that was 3rd bottom last year won 6 on the spin so it’s not that abnormal really if we’re using past data.

My point was there is no strength in depth at the bottom. Usually if one team pulls away it’s fine because there’s another 2 to take their place - this year it looks like if you’re West Ham United you’ll be needing to target 43 points to stay up. They might get that.
 
I think oalace and tottenham coukd still get draggsd into it. It would take a hell of a bad run for us to, ehich I dont really see happening. We are Sunderland though after all.

You do realise that freak run of 6 wins were all against the other teams in the bottom 7? West Ham’s next 3 fixtures include 2 of the top 5. The last time West Ham won 2 on the bounce, they didn’t win again for 10 games.

And again, this “strength in depth” you talk of….. Well, the current bottom 7 teams have won 8 of their last 70 games between them, since early December. 5 of those were in games where 2 of them were playing each other. To put that into context, we have won 8 of our last 23.

West Ham may stay up. But at this stage, it’s unlikely, and it’s very unlikely they get 40 points.
 
West Ham have won 2 in a row and haven’t really gained much ground, if the gap to safety does increase over the next few games to say 8/9 points, they might just give up.
 
Beat Burnley on Monday and that stops the negativity from Saturdays performance.

We have 15 games left and the reality is, if we get just ten points+ we will finish 15th or above.

Plus we have the opportunity to have a decent cup run

Some people are worrying because we got beat from West Ham but forget we beat Palace in the game before. I would have taken 3 points from those two games.

You’re right mate. Although they beat us, they are still 5pts away from safety and 13 pts behind us.

West Ham go to Chelsea on Sat as well
