Points needed to stay up

Burnley is really a must win?
nah, we have enough in the tank to get safe even if we lose that one imo. I just want to avoid squeaky bum time if we are dragged down a bit with a drop in form, the bedwetting on here would be insane.

I was expecting the drop off during December and that didnt happen as much as expected, in fact was bloody pleased with our return in points, so we have "points in the bag" so to speak.

But I also dont want us to think its job done, we have escaped more than one from a useless position before, no reason why the clubs below us cant find form and but pressure on and do the same.

Get the points on the board sooner, we can enjoy the run in looking up and not down.

But its not panic time yet by any stretch, we have been adding points nice and steady, just dont think 35 points is enough this year like some others.

Only once this century has more than 39 points (without a horrific GD) been required. That was the year that West Ham went down with 42 points and perhaps the best side ever to have been relegated. West Ham 2025/6 are not a patch on that side.

But West Ham might still get 41 points.

Think this is the point, the teams on 4th, 5th and 6th bottom are picking up points pretty comfortably and looking decent, the teams in 3rd bottom has just won 2 off the bounce.

There might genuinely be a record demand on points required, because it’s all on West Ham do, because everyone else looks a good bet to be 40+. The relegation scrap doesn’t have strength in depth - if West Ham do something silly like win 5 on the spin which we cannot control then it will look a lot more precarious.

Ill repeat! ....look at West Hams remaining fixtures they'll be Lucky to gain another 12 points, they only looked like Brazil in the first half against us, probably because we were crap!...we won the second half 1-0

West Ham in “good form” have earned 7 points from their last 6 games. They’ve won 2 in a row but they lost 3 and drew one of their previous 4.

We, in “poor form” have picked up 6 points from our last 6 games and lost one fewer than West Ham.

They aren’t catching us up.

West Ham could get 65 points if they win every game. It's all if's, but's, and maybe's at this stage of the season, so it's better to go on past data being the best indicator of the future, not something completely abnormal occurring. 3 wins in 21 games doesn't suddenly turn into 5 wins in 5 games.

By the way, the teams currently in 4th, 5th, 6th, & 7th bottom (Forest, Leeds, Palace & Spurs) have won 6 of their last 33 games combined - 4 of which have come against teams also in the bottom 7 places.

Beat Burnley and we're there.

Sure we might need another couple to get to 38, (which will be enough) but more than a dozen games left we can at least scrape a couple of draws for heaven's sake.
If we can't get 5-6 points from our remaining 15 games, then we deserve to go down. Even if we now lose every game until the end of the season, I still don't think that we'll be in the bottom 3 until the last fortnight.

I think it could be 42 points needed, and I definitely think a couple of other clubs are going to get pulled into it, possibly a Palace or even us.

Mind you if we beat Burnley, I will finally be confident that we are going to stay up. Would hate to get to a position of only 5 or so points above relegation with 5 games left. After our amazing efforts so far, would be brilliant to get 45+ points.

I wouldn't even say it's a must win game, more of a not lose game, keep ticking away & end the Season on a High!
