ID checks for away tickets

When I bought me Brighton ticket online they asked for proof of ID and address.
So I gave me London address and all ok.

I haven't had enough points to get to away matches this season but even I knew that every match in the premier league is subject to ID checks, why are people shocked at this?
Written this sounds more of a dig then I mean it pal.

But most of us who have been going away in league one, championship are just kind of focused on our own club and don’t really notice anyone else or what they do.

I haven’t heard/read about that at all - genuinely news to me.
Long overdue the random checks, the amount of folk buying tickets and instantly selling them on Facebook needs to stop

That just doesn’t happen anymore now we’re in the PL. there’s thousands of people scrambling for the less then ten or so that come up for every match on those pages.

Not to your point exactly but I suspect all this will do is make it more of a closed shop. Because there will be groups who share around away tickets who years ago would have normally sold spares on pages like that, or here. But they’ll cling onto more then they need until after it’s clear which ones are being checked. And then try and move spares on the day.

Unfortunately when you've got sold out stadiums and sold out season tickets, they aren't going to award high demand away tickets to a non season ticket holder who can't attend regularly.

Thats not fair either.
Then start offering an away season ticket only option for those fans based in the south of the country
There is, loyalty points.
But you can only get on the loyalty points system if you have a season card. Alter that then it makes it fairer. You'd still need to be a registered member but would at least stand a chance of getting the odd ticket when it goes to general saĺe
Don’t work though. They need to be awarded to the person attending the match rather than the person buying the ticket.
That would be far better!
If that was in place I'd be over 40 pts rather than 2
But surely you have I’d on your phone. A bank card of some sorts perhaps?
Needs to be photo ID, or it did for the Forest game

let people queue jump due to where they choose to live , great idea

Yes, there are a few who are harvesting their tickets but there’s folks willing to buy them , you can’t have your cake and eat it , you went to 38 games when you weren’t eligible for a ticket

I’ve been supporting Sunderland for over 20 years I’ve been to over 40 stadiums and I go when I can to games. I can’t get a season ticket due to financial and ethical reasons. I have been there in the cold and wet in league 1, the championship and the bad years in the prem. And now they’re trying are making it difficult for people like me to go to games. This is not fair.
I don’t think they’re trying to make it harder. It just is harder because demand is higher

If you don’t mind me asking, what ethical reason is there for not buying a season ticket?

Surely the lateness of the email is to prevent people turning up with ID and still passing their ticket on? It’s obvious why they’ve sent it so late in the day
Well, I’ve just found this thread and first I’ve heard of it. We’re at wetherby on the way to see the Bairn in mcr before the match. Our lass hasn’t got any id on her.

Cue a panicky check of emails. Thankfully nothing, but fucks sake. Summat else to chew on about for away tickets.

Newcomers to away games/ returners getting all excited....

Means nothing. You're even less likely to get a ticket now.

Your still doing those hard yards to get the points.

(Checks email)

Thing is it isn't even clear what is classed as ID

For example is a bank card enough with the name on etc?
Wonder if people who only have their phone could log into their online banking with their name and address on? You're hardly going to have anyone elses online banking on your phone.
Needs to be photo ID, or it did for the Forest game
I can't go to away games anymore but if I did I'd be snookered, I don't even have photo ID. I don't drive so haven't got a driving license and have a severley disabled daughter so can't go abroad, therefore no passport. Daft making people get a passport when you'll never use it.

Dosen't solve your problem but I have a picture of my passport on my phone.

Feels like a few Mags exposed on this thread, this isn’t a normal thing for Sunderland but is for Newcastle, those it happens every week people, we are looking at you 👀

I'm losing my hair, have a full beard and still got ID'd in BM for some beers when I was 40

Of course I didn't have any ID with me and they refused to believe I was over 18
This happend to me once in tescos. We'd been to the corner shop and picked up some jager and cans. Popped into tescos to get red bull
Refused service because I didn't have id'd
They csn clearly see we'd bought booze but energy drink nope

I genuinely think some shop workers only do it to people who don't look likely to kick off

I'd rather it be no ID = no sale then everyone knows where they stand
