Diarra out till December

I’m not as convinced as others that he’d be off to AFCON mind. Zero game time until mid December at earliest isn’t any way to prepare for an international tournament.
Recovery time for a football player after groin surgery depends on the type of surgery and individual factors, but generally:

Minor procedures (e.g., adductor release or minor hernia repair): 6–12 weeks.
More complex surgeries (e.g., sports hernia or extensive groin reconstruction): 3–6 months.

Timeline:
0–2 weeks: Rest, pain management, and limited movement to allow initial healing.
2–6 weeks: Gradual introduction of physical therapy, focusing on mobility and light strengthening.
6–12 weeks: Progressive return to sport-specific training, including running, cutting, and kicking.
12+ weeks: Full return to competitive play, assuming no setbacks.
Reads to me like it’s on the more serious end of minor procedure then.

Thankfully we have plenty of options in the squad. Rigg is the next like for like replacement, and Le Fee is absolutely a good choice there. We can change shape and play 2 up top, or play more through the wings.
There's no need to panic, or start questioning how the team trains etc - shit like this happens all the time and all the best clubs train at a high intensity.
Lastly, our Head Coach has proven (maybe not to everyone) that he knows what he is doing and he will have a plan in place for Diarra's absence.

Wonder if we'll see a change to back 3?
Wouldn't be against it. It gets Ballard into the side which is a huge help in both boxes at set pieces
Don't really see why we would. It's not in our make-up.

Rigg, Neil, Gertruida, and Le Fee all available to play in the midfield three.

You have to ask the question what on earth happened in training, not a full pelt game, that has resulted in a player copping an injury that will take 4 MONTHS to get over.
Did he already have some ‘weakness’ or predisposition?
Did another team member do it?
I find it bewildering frankly
Bewildering? A training ground injury comes as that much of a shock to you? Happens around the world daily. Could have been worse. It happened in September and he’s likely to be back December so only 3 months.

Thankfully there’s 2 international breaks until December.

If we take the view that he’ll be on the bench for the first December game (Liverpool A) then he misses the following:

Forest A
Man U A
Wolves H
Chelsea A
Everton H
Arsenal H
Fulham A
Bournemouth H

You can’t be serious man

Huge loss but like others have said thankfully we recruited well and have a few different options even if it means experimenting with formation etc

Surely this means we can tell Senegal to get in the bin regarding AFCON though?

I can see us doing that in certain games against the top 6, but I reckon RLB will stick with what works best v Forest

Roefs
Hume Mukiele Aldarete Masuaku
Xhaka Sadiki
Talbi Rigg Le Fee
Isisdor

Subs: Patterson, Geertruida, Ballard, Neil, Jones/O'Nien, Adringra, Mayenda, Traore, Brobbey

Mundle back after the Man Utd game hopefully, so there's extra options out wide to free up Le Fee.

It's a blow, but not the blow it would have been in previous seasons

Poveda can sit back down though

Leaves us with even less of an attacking threat than we’ve already got though

Wouldn’t be surprised to see it against the big teams like

OPs name checks out. This is f***ing devastating. I don't know if Neill has the legs to replace Diarra. This will be the making of Rigg if he takes the opportunity though.

Then he goes to AFCON in mid December! It’s a massive blow.

Think it’s the most logical way, especially how impressive we looked in it on Sunday. If we do it though, I’d use Tabli as that Lwb but essentially push him higher than the remaining 4.

Gives you the option to play 2 up top also and potentially brings the best out of Le Fee in an inverted 10 position.
