Diarra out till December

As much as his energy and work rate impressed me, I think rigg looked fresh and as good on the ball on Sunday to be honest. Le Fee can play there too and adingra can come back in. It’s a blow, but I’m not overly concerned. Hopefully it does mean he misses the afcon and then we’ve got cover for Sadiki.

He was moved there rather than make a second sub. Masuake did eventually come on to play there. Can't imagine he'll ever be started at left back ahead of a left back
The obvious option was to bring in on the left back (Masuaku)
We chose not to. There was no need for 2 subs

Aye, Adringa in on wing,Le Fee inside

Kept the fresher legs for later in the game when those out there will have done a lot of running.

While it would've made sense to bring him on straight away it also made sense (and proved correct thankfully) to leave it until later.

A devastating blow IMO.

He's absolutely superb. So good at driving us up the field and will be a massive loss.

Just bloody typical and continues the ridiculous trend of injuries we pick up.

Two weeks in a row now players have picked up muscle injuries in the session immediately before a game.

No because he wanted a back 3/5 with 10 men. Not a back 4

Which again would've made sense with Masuake being a left back/wing back. It was a ready made position for him.
I said earlier though maybe with Talbi's work rate and the thought that bringing on fresh legs after those on the pitch had ran themselves ragged rather than make the subs early played a part in Le Bris' thoughts

Thankfully there’s 2 international breaks until December.

If we take the view that he’ll be on the bench for the first December game (Liverpool A) then he misses the following:

Forest A
Man U A
Wolves H
Chelsea A
Everton H
Arsenal H
Fulham A
Bournemouth H

That's over 20% of the entire PL season and doesn't include AFCON.

A £30m signing for a newly promoted side and he'll miss at the very least 30%-35% of our games.

Could well be the difference between staying up and not.

So we signed Masuaku, a left footed LB who has played wing back and is extremely rapid, will be left in the stiffs because Talbi, a right footed winger will be preferred?
Yes Talbi came on yesterday, but mainly because Masuaku came in late, and due to being a man down it was probably felt Talbi was in better match fitness condition.
RLB and team clearly prefer when we have 11 on the pitch to play 4 at the back
If anything he will find a way to bring Geertruida into the defence rather than draft Talbi who is obviously favoured as a creative offensive presence
If we play a 4 then yes Masuaku, but cannot see it if we play a 3/5.
Agree that RLB prefers a back four though but even against 10 men on Sunday, I think he’d of been super happy with that system.
Also the threat of Ballard is a huge swing for me, create more through him than with wingers 😅

I think if hes fit by December he'll almost certainly go to the afcon.

I agree, I was pleasantly surprised we went the way we did. I think a back 3 suits us. Talbi is a very good option as a wing back

Potentially 6 games missed because of AFCON so 14 games out of 38
