PSR whinging

This is not ‘totally’ aimed at the skunks bleating about ‘Profit and Sustainability Rules’ although they were VERY happy at being “thu richist clerb in thu worrld”. (They were happy at an uneven playing field rather than a more level one).

No….this is aimed at Villa and Forest and Man City (when they are eventually brought to book) et al.
Football was eating itself before these rules came in. It is surely good for the game that ALL clubs are reading from the same hymn book.
Yes, of course, some clubs will be better run than others….that is how competition works….and YES the rules are far from perfect as yet, with too many loopholes.
BUT for the betterment and longevity of the game in England, PSR is surely the right way to go.

…..And I hope to god that WE have had the calculator out to check that we are behaving sustainably!!

(Any thoughts on this?…my fine SMB cohorts)

If it bites us in the arse in a few years time we'll be full of hell.

Whereas the alternative is let nation States spend whatever they want and we can't compete even more?

Amazing how I keep hearing about "PSR is strangling smaller clubs with ambition and keeping them down". Yet Crystal Palace are winning trophies and having their best seasons in their history, along with Brentford, Bournemouth and Brighton.

Maybe some clubs are just spoilt sportswashed children

btw, i'm fairly sure villa, forest etc didn't start on about psr till the saudis did. I'm fairly certain they started it and got the other 2 to come on board with their "campaign".

Now suddenly they're best pals with the team that laughed at them when they sent them down, and the mags have hated ever since. Do me a favour.

It bit Forest when they did similar spending to us.

Villa voted against PSR in 2013. The mags voted in favour.

Obviously when they were taken over they tossed the toys out the pram. 'The cartel has brought in new rules to spite wah!'

They helped bring the 'new' rules in 12 years ago 😂
They conveniently ignore that if you mention it though 🤣

They’re literally seething because they can’t buy victory. That’s no longer support, that’s privilege.

My only issue with it is that it pulled the drawbridge up behind the big six. I’m all for protecting clubs from overspending under feckless owners and going bust, but there’s no catching the clubs with years of champions league, world club cup revenue, or the ones that spent billions before the rules came in. If it was a level playing field I’d be all for it but it’s clearly far, far harder for the other 14.

The rules are an improvement over the old FFP ones, but it is a concern that it just entrenches the established "top" clubs given their absurdly large incomes, see Liverpool being able to spend half a billion this year if they wanted to.

Not sure how you'd solve that though while still ensuring clubs aim for sustainability, I think you'd have to artificially cap spending which clubs would never go for.

Football has always been 'unfair', the biggest clubs get the biggest revenue and can afford the biggest wages and spend the biggest money. At least with PSR it's loosely based on some form of merit (if you are successful on the pitch and off it with merchandise revenue) rather than who has the richest owner willing to splash their billions.

Obviously the current format is riddled with issues such as selling other assets (women's teams, training grounds) and using shell companies to sell parts of the club back and forwards are all loopholes that no-one is happy with.

….and Forest were bleating on when they overspent and were reined in.
