Getting bit anxious over defense. Haway Florent

A strong defence is more important. You don't concede, you don't get beat and could win. A good striker doesn't matter if you can't stop the other team going down the other end and sticking one more in than you do.

I'll be closing my eyes every time West Ham attack with that lot trying to stop them
Why that’s basically three of our first choice back four 😂

The recruitment team will by all probability have a last resort CH .....doesn't that mean inferior though?

If we dont sign a defender in the next 10 days we starting the season with either Seelt at Centre half or Harrison Jones at Left back

I'm sure RLB said he wants a small squad so there aren't players left out not playing. The problem with that is when you have so many injury prone players as we do. Do you count them? I mean Mundle could be out until Xmas after his surgery.

The defence is the big problem though. We have Alese, Huggins, Seelt, Cirkin and to a lesser extent Ballard who are prone to injuries. Add Hjelde and O Nein as probably not up to the step up and it isn't good. The midfield and wingers will be missing for around 5 matches for Afcon too so we probably need quite a big squad but mainly a few CB

It's a bit mad like, centre half has been the weakest position right from the start when you consider for most of last season Mepham and O'Nien were first choice we knew O'Nien was out and Mepham leaving as soon as the whistle blew at Wembley.

If you'd said then that the week before the season starts we'd have signed 9 players, spent over £120m but no centre halves I think you'd have been called crackers!

Last resort CB would arrive in or just before deadline day. They are still shopping at the top end but may not complete before West Ham match. Mandava would be fine at CB which makes LB the problem area.

Dan Neil has played there before but I reckon RLB would stick with Jones.

Who was wearing number 2 in the Betis game?
Just curious.

What like buying Wilson in January despite him being on loan until the end of the season?

Is it not just a case of the right striker not being available? We could go out and sign anyone to fill a gap in the squad.

However, I’d rather we wait to land the players who will have been scouted for months on are high on our list of targets to improve the squad.
Agree. There also appear to be some - like Lucumi - who fit the talent profile but seem a little more mercenary in their decision making. Would like to avoid those if possible as it could destabilize the culture. Was so refreshing to see how much Xhaka reinforced that he wanted to be here.

Jones at Left back would be a car crash.

Lad needs loaning out for the season not getting roasted off Bowen all afternoon on the opening day
