They would play Huggins surelyBe class if Jones is starting LB against Bowen because we only have one decent recognised CB. Fun times.

I don’t agree. I think a defender would look to that as the challenge and if they step up then they move onto bigger and better things. There's also the potential that defenders are hesitant to come to a team they perceive as a big relegation risk where they'll be under a lot of pressure, look exposed and may suffer reputationally. Hopefully our other signings will lessen that perception but it's still valid to feel that way.
I think the club maybe wanted to look at the lads Ballard and Seelt first before seeing where we are at. And where Alese is injury wise etc.I think it's more the case that we're targeting more experienced players for CB and for them simply coming to the premier league isn't the same opportunity as it is for emerging players like Talbi etc.
There's also more competition, they're more expensive and have more alternatives.
The desperation point, there's nothing we can do about that now and if it's a thing it has only become one more recently - it wouldn't have been an issue 6 weeks ago and we were presumably trying to sign CBs then too since it's been the obvious week spot all summer.
We're not going to be free-scoring anyway. The players we've signed are clearly targeted being mobile, solid in the middle of park, and having good pace to press and counter attack. We're not going to do a Southampton, come out trying be Man City and get smashed every week. I imagine we'll defend in numbers, try and be compact and solid and hurt teams on the counter. We'll see. I'll be pleasantly surprised if we're scoring freely in the Premier League considering our current available options.
