Northern trains

Yeah, the trains usually were full by the time they go to seaham, now it happens a stop earlier.

Hopefully Grand Central get the go ahead to stop at seaham to make it easier for those based there to get to the town on a matchday.

The service northern offers passengers at Horden and Seaham on a matchday is a disgrace. Hardly anyone will pay for a ticket and I don’t blame them.
Heard GC was happening in March or April next year. Are they reliable?

Northern should be running a half hourly service on match days at least. They must be losing a fortune with no ticket checks.

GC trains seem fairly unreliable. Been a few times that they’ve let me down on a Saturday with cancelled trains.

Totally agree about the ticket checks! They must lose a fortune from their staff not being able to move down the train to check tickets.

I don’t use GC on Saturdays, been let down to many times. LNER and Metro to get to games, if LNER canx a train there’s another in 30 mins to Ncl.

Yeah it’s what I get on most games, I still pay but no one else seems too. No tickets get checked etc. it’s like those videos you see in Japan at rush hour, people just packed in like sardines. There’s no policing it safety stuff I swear if safety inspectors saw what goes on on those trains on a match day they’d be shut down it’s very dangerous I’ve seen older women screaming to be let off as they’ve had panic attacks. It must be very nervy for some, I stood at roker park so I’m use to being in tight spots but at times even I have had to calm my breathing.

I messaged GC today and they’re non the wiser about a potential stop at Seaham. I was hoping this would be in place for the start of the season. Trains will be even worse next season with another 4000 on the attendance

***Great News: Grand Central Trains to Stop at Seaham from December 2025***

I’m delighted to share that the Office of Rail and Road has confirmed that Grand Central Trains will begin stopping at Seaham Station from December 2025 to December 2026, with four stopping services per day in each direction.

This means that our constituency will now have direct rail links to York and London, alongside increased capacity to local destinations such as Sunderland and Hartlepool.

Although the approval is currently for a one-year period using 5-car trains, I’m confident that these services will be well-used by residents across our community. I’ll continue working closely with Grand Central, Network Rail and the Office of Rail and Road to explore potential continuation of these services beyond December 2026.

This is a significant step forward for our area’s connectivity, and I remain committed to campaigning for even better rail links for our whole constituency.
Has anyone ever left their car outside of Stockton station? I know there isn’t an official car park, but there always seems to be cars left on the street as you exit?

Ideally want to get the 5pm train back tomorrow.

Anyone managed to make it before leaving at full time?
I've managed to catch the 17.02 or 17.03 service (never a 17.00 train) to Teesside a couple of times by:
- Moving to a seat next to a south east corner exit just before full time.
- Exiting the second the whistle goes.
- Jogging (non-stop) back to the station.

I arrived each time dripping in sweat and knackered - but did it. One time I was able to take it a bit easy as I checked my phone en-route and saw that the train was a few minutes late.

It's about 0.6 miles from the Stokoe statue to the station.

Re. the Stockton station query: I've never done it but (as a regular Stockton station user) have seen loads of nice cars left there. No different to parking in any other town IMO.

Is Grand Central planning on stopping at Stockton too like?

Yeah I think the official time is 17:02, I’m in the SEC today so might head down to the access as the board goes up. CBA waiting another 45 minutes for the next train.

No mate, the Stockton post just tagged onto the end of the GC info. Apologies for any confusion. I’ll be leaving the car at Thornaby or Stockton today. Think it’s a bit safer at TBY

I was sure the Labour Party were going to ensure more carriages were on. They’ve been in power over a year now. Feels like the Tories are still in charge.

Where you getting these trains from?

I respect people want more trains but my local line (Northumberland Line) is having cancellations all the time lately due to lack of trains. I'm surprised any are doubled up today tbh.
