Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

I’ll give it a drink free t perspective.

It’s not that he doesn’t give a shit, he’s just not good enough, yet. He’s a professional footballer who’ll wa t to win every match. Who’ll want to play at Wembley next month.

He’s a talented player who’s moved from the u21s, to the first team. U21s it’s possibly he’s told to go out & “express himself”. He’ll struggle to do that in men’s football & we need him to do other jobs. Like defend from the front.

So it’s a case do we put a round peg in a round hole & play him left wing, or a bit of a square peg with Mayenda?

Personally, there’s an argument for perseverance as he might have a chance to affect the biggest game this season on the 24th May. But the only reason to play Tommy Watson at the minute is to help us win that actual match.

I don’t think he’s shit. I don’t think he’s not interested. I just have my doubts whether he’s good enough for the next 7 matches, which is all we have him for.
Very sensible post.

I didn’t watch the game today, but against Norwich it seemed evident to me that he was lacking support from a fullback as he had Hjelde behind him, and so when he had the ball at his feet, their defender only had him to worry about. In the second half it seems evident that one of the instructions (possibly a change of tactic?) was that the Fullbacks were asked to ouch on and provide more support to the attack, and Watson was looking good in the second half before being subbed, whereas in the first half he just looked devoid of any ideas.

If he keeps playing like he has the past few matches then there’ll be no other option but to drop him, looks disinterested and a shadow of what he was earlier in the season, whether that is him working his way back after injury or because he’s already sorted his move away and he’s not bothered anymore only he will know

A Sunderland lad from a Sunderland family isn’t he?

Agitating for a move to Brighton when you can play a part in getting you hometown club promotion is poor. He will be a wealthy lad but you are right it’s sad times.

He will have plenty time to count his money next season because if he shows the same commitment at Brighton as he showed today he won’t be playing much.

Needs to be removed from the squad given his level of commitment as not good for the lads who want to here and are trying.
That's what I don't get like. We all know that football is a short career and we all know that clubs don't show much loyalty to players. But if you're a sunderland fan and you've worked hard to get on the fringes of the team, I can't understand why you'd want out so quickly, especially when it sounds like he's been looking for a while.

I got it when we were in league one. I'd even get it if you were looking good and we didn't progress and stayed in the championship, but we might go up this season to a league where he'd be able to get a better deal etc. To walk away and not even wait to see where we are in the summer, when he could still accept a move if he fancied, is just weird. As a sunderland fan the very least I'd want to do is have a good season where I played in a lot of games.

Not sure if he's just thrown his toys out because he's been told he's well behind Mundle (which he rightly is), but it's disappointing. Tbh I didn't think he was any worse today than normal, probably better than his first couple of games back from injury, but he certainly wasn't busting a gut. He's worth playing so that there's only ten players we need to be worried about picking up an injury but we can't be playing him in the play offs. Bit of a shame he got booed, I was in the large group that simply didn't react to him coming off at all, but can't say it was a surprise

All fair points mate.

He wants the bright lights of Brighton then so be it. He shouldn’t be given any more game time imho

He’s only a kid. He’s signed for a premier league team on high wages and has nothing to prove playing in the championship. Not motivated and shouldn’t be guaranteed a place in our first team. He didn’t do himself any favours with his attitude today!

3 words: Ian f***ing Harte

Mind, anyone daft enough to have Danny f***ing Graham as their agent probably isn’t blessed with the greatest of grey matter

Use him for another game or two to protect Mundle. I'd stick Samed and Alexic in for Neil and Rigg for the same reason and if Poveda was fit he'd be out there waddling down the wing for a game or two.

I don't really mind him playing now tbh. Even if he is disinterested, I don't want Mayender or Mundle to come back and get injured before the play offs. Or Le Fee for that matter.

If those lads need minutes to get match sharpness on point by all means give them the minutes but if not then don't risk them.

I couldn't really care less if we lose every game here on out as long as we win the three players off games (or the two required to go up). We need to get the balance right though and tbf that is a tricky job.

Read the post. Next couple of games then back to our main men.

As to your question, personally I wouldn't give a toss how many games we lost, it's all about what we can do on the day that counts now.
This. Is it not a bit of a myth that a team come from nowhere and goes on a mad run and is promoted? Blackpool , I remember but last year, the top four made three of the promoted clubs and the other was beaten I the final.

Our players are knackered, they're being overplayed, picking up injuries and are needing a rest.

The gaffer rests a few.

They should be playing and looking to gain momentum.

Same as ever on here, people backing every horse in the race and boasting they backed the winner. :)

You may be right mate but I've no idea. I'll trot out the old maxim based on what's known as the problem of induction, the past is no guide to the future. Even the longest losing run is ended by a victory. :)

I think form going into the play offs really counts
We can’t just ease off & put our feet up & expect to steamroll the play offs
Won’t happen
Momentum is key
