Nissan

I dont know how people put up with this sort of shit, it feels like every other Christmas the place is on stand down or going to go under.
Ha it has always been so, even in the 80's when I started I was told this will shut in a couple of years its just a trojan horse to get Nissans into the country on the cheap...(It was but it didn't)...

And EVERY pay talks, all 18 I was involved in at least, without fail the doom and gloom was trotted out beforehand to temper our expectations, regardless of if it was true or not, and at least half the time it was not...

Build always dropped in the 80's/90's/00's (apart from when Qashqai launched in late 2006 and we could not produce enough to meet demand) during October to February, then went up as spring arrived...

One of the original reasons they brought the first version of stand downs in, in the 90's...

So usually pay talks years in October / November it was look line speed / build is down its all doom and gloom, then as soon as it got to March. quick ramp the line up and get the overtime on every time...

Having said that, I think most sensible people on here will see that the car industry is really in a bad way currently, regardless of all the previous times they have cried wolf,

Partly because of silly government decisions regarding EV's, / silly EU directives and the Tree hugging / eco zealots brigade causing more damage than they would be fixing and the credit crunch fall out etc,

So I think in those circumstances, the rumoured pay offer is decent if jobs are protected, which has got to be the most important thing to me...

Be interesting to see what does happen, don't see Nissan going bust even though articles keep mentioning it, even with all the current difficulties,

But glad the Pension Protection Fund covers 100% of my pension though, just in case the worst did happen...

I do genuinely wish everyone working there still at NMUK good luck in keeping their jobs and getting a decent deal, and keeping a great factory going, don't want my 35 years of hard graft to have all been in vain..👍

That’s one of the worst examples of journalism I’ve ever read, pure speculation and conjecture. You could write an alternative article saying ‘keeping open Sunderland plant’ here’s what we know.

Not if they giving him £50k to leave like last round got
A new starter or say someone who’s just started are earning 30k a year including shift allowance.
Anyone who started before 2006 (15% higher earners) are now on £43-45k a year. They would much rather have them out the door going and have new starters.
From a business perspective moving forward it’s better for the company in the long run. Otherwise they wouldn’t have done it in 2019.

Am I thinking of the right company but wasn’t it Nissan that had the issues about 2012/2014ish with new temp starters turning up, being told they’d get £27k and then on the first day they were told it was 21k, take it or leave it?

Hmm not sure, it’s a bit confusing when they give a basic wage but then the shift allowance on top. For example when they were absolutely hammering recruitment a year ago they advertised as 30k but said in the advert including shift allowance.
If it was 2012/2014 as you say the 21k may have been 21k plus shift allowance (presuming 3 shift premium at 22%) would have been 27k in total.
But to be honest I’d never heard that take it or leave it bit that you said. I’d defo be leaving it if that was the case though.

What you may also be talking about however is the 15% drop in pay for new starters in 2006ish. Some of them got it but depending on the start date threshold some of them got well dropped in the s**t. It was shocking really.

The 15% drop doesn't apply now to top of the band.

Top of the band is under £41k now
