Jack Clarke

in the summer i thought it very unlikely Clarke would ever kick a ball for Sunderland again. And I was resigned to it.

Now two games in… if he leaves… to Ipswich ffs (no disrespect to them but they’ll be coming back down next season) I’ll be gutted
i know where your coming from but Ipswich would be more than double wages.

we pay shit money so i can understand if Clarke wanted to go even if in 10 months time he will be back in the championship.

at the end of the day we not exactly showing the ambition of a club that is on the way up this season are we, taking punts on young'n again.

That coming from Michael Walker says its pretty much done to me like. Pretty sure the club have briefed him in the past about numberous things. Stink's of the club trying to control the narrative early and then announce the two forwards just after it becomes public we've accepted.

£15m+ add ons is an absolute pisstake
Hi Michael

Rutter a year younger than Clarke who isn’t as a good a player and whose stats aren’t in the same street as Clarke has just been sold to Brighton for £40m! There is serious questions to be asked if we sell Clarke for any less, simple question to KLD or I suppose to any buying club…. why should we be considering selling Clarke for anything less?

I am afraid I have very little faith that KLD and his stooge, Speakman will ever spend what is required to get promoted.

They seem very happy to continue being puppet masters with young players, just as an experiment. As if to show all other football club owners they are right. Sunderland is a plaything for KLD, something he can indulge himself with

Though we paid more than one million.

If we sell him now especially after the start we’ve had it makes you wonder if we do actually want to get promoted this season
I said exactly the same to the step fatha earlier mate. We’ve started so well, are nearing a breakthrough in the striker search and then sell the best player we’ve had (owned) at this level for about 25 years.

How would they prove they are right by never getting promotion?

Rutter had a high release clause. He was also on more money at Leeds on a longer contract.

He was also playing for a club with parachute money who will be looking at promotion this season.

Of course Rutter was leaving for more.

No we don't, about 12th in the league for wages so average for the championship

As somebody else posted I wouldn’t mind if we said stay another year, here’s a deal that increases your wages and we’ll reduce our asking price next summer.

We aren’t only restricted to selling Clarke, even more so if the deal only gets us 11-12 million…..Christ Udinese offered us half of that for Ekwah
I couldn’t see the point. If he signs a new contract it could have a realistic release clause between 20-25 million should we not gain promotion. What would be the point in giving him a wage increase and then still selling his cheap next season. It needs to work both ways here. He still has 2 years left, we can get low balled regardless next season if he doesn’t sign and stays, why the need to pay him more wages in the process. He’s worth 20-25 million all day long, clubs trying to get him for 15 are taking the piss.
