Zan Vipotnik (transfer rumour)

He's played over 100 first team games and has 10 international caps, how much experience does a striker really need?
He's got similar stats to Jay Stansfield, ie loads better than anything we have. Swansea obviously light years ahead of us though, being able to sign this lad.
I think we need someone who is the finished article due to a mix of how we play and how young the rest of the side is.
We arguably do, but we also could do with someone who is very close to the finished article rather being years off it.

I really like Mayenda but, like Hemir last season, we shouldn't be asking him to lead the line. He's still learning his trade.

This. He should be playing the Michael bridges/Anthony stokes role. Comes on, gets plenty of minutes but is very much the understudy. Preferably to two other strikers with experience.

I agree mate but why would we not be in for him anyway. Especially as he was "free", we need two, I'd still rather have him that nobody. He's clearly miles better than Mayenda.
I think he might transpire to be a bit like Grabban in as much as he gets goals but doesn’t do much. We need more than that but he’d still have been a good option as one of two.

If you’re using the definition of finished article as “experienced and won’t improve further”, then that’s an odd argument

Its like saying Spurs should have signed Jordan Henderson over Archie Gray
It's not though, as we loads (and enough) of young strikers who can improve exponentially but it's such an important position that we need an experienced option. It'll also help the young players to train with a player who has learned the tricks of the trade.

Hemir and Mayenda have barely played professionally. This lad is 22 and has played international football, he went to the Euros.

Is he the answer? God knows. Is Mendy however?

We shouldn't be asking Hemir, Mayenda or any 22 year old to lead the line for us for an entire season. As well as the fact our tactics mean it's extremely hard work with lack of support, having to occupy both centre halves solo, running the channels, needing to be absolutely clinical and generally having to be an all round striker, there's also massive pressure on the shoulders of whoever ends up doing it due to us not having a proper one for a couple of years.

I don't know if Mendy is the answer and maybe there is a better option out there (who??) but on paper he has a better shot than the likes of Conway, Vipotnik, etc and will hopefully buy us a year or two while younger ones grow into the role and we find a more long term option.
