West Indies Test Series

I find Key's selections ever more eccentric. Smith looks like a great prospect but so does Robinson who is a better keeper. Picking Bashir over Leach or Dawson is just random, maybe the idea is to rely on Root & Lawrence to share spin duties and pack the batting, which would be less random. He just seems to be falling into the old trap of making punts on the future rather than winning what's in front of us.
Dawson isn't good enough

Bairstow and Foakes career over?

Wood rested from this series or at least the first 2 tests I reckon.

Robinson dropped, think he might come back for Sri Lanka if he stays fit though

Bashir being groomed for next year I reckon, they know what they get from Leach (think they would go for Hartley over Leach now as well).

Pennington been getting good reviews from alot of cricket podcasts this season (Stone coming back to fitness too)

Smith is the exciting attacking option out of the wicket keeper choices, though Robinson is very unlucky

Robinson is done in this regime in my opinion
Bashir can't get a game for Somerset

They’re picking long term, I don’t mind it meself, Bashir has got qualities than no other spinners do have, albeit he’s very young

I would have liked to pick Robinson but the smith selection isn’t eccentric in my view, most in the game think he is a generational talent
I think they've lost confidence in Robinson's fitness or have lost patience with his attitude. Think he's a lot to do to get back in now.

I don’t think it’s all Robinson’s fault the fitness stuff, he’s put work in, but in key matches in the ashes and India he had a back spasm and couldn’t bowl

I mean you just can’t have that, it’s the one basic requirement you need is to be able to bowl your overs

I wouldn’t pick him this year like

Smith is obviously a good player but so is Robinson, I'd have preferred Robinson but looking forward to seeing Smith. If Bashir isn't playing FC I don't get it tbh, fair enough as a punt for India.

He’s been out on loan. It’s a fair point, I guess it’s just coincidence that he’s at same club as leach. I mean right now leach is much better bowler but if you’re gonna make a call on a player long term then maybe now it’s it

I agree on Robinson but I reckon they simply think that Smith has a higher ceiling than Robinson. Time will tell I guess

It’s intriguing calls for sure

Fitness and attitude

For whom has he lacked that ?

Sorry Carty, I don't follow your question
“think they've lost confidence in Robinson's fitness or have lost patience with his attitude. Think he's a lot to do to get back in now.”

I think I’ve misunderstood which Robinson you were referring to

I thought it was the none selection of Durhams WK

now I read it back I’m assuming you meant Olly Robinson the bowler

Yeah, the bowler, sorry. McCullum didn't seem happy with him after India. I read an article the other day about OR having a pretty frank conversation with Stokes about what he needs to do a year or so ago but it looks like they collectively feel let down to have decided to drop him. The talent is there, I thought Farbrace's interview on the BBC yesterday was a bit disingenuous.

Agreed. I think he will be given another opportunity this summer

Currently watching this on you tube Hamza shaikh the 18 from Warwickshire batting very well again currently 80 off 110. Looked Englands u19s best bat in the winter.

Just put the kiss of death on him next ball pulled a long hop down deep mid wickets throat.

I think our batting line up has been our biggest problem recently. Too many collapses in the India series and not enough contributions from all the batsmen. ODI WC are batting was our weak point.

To me it feels like West Indes series at home is a great chance to mix things up and give some young players a chance as its not hostile Australia or India abroad.

On that basis I would have been happy to see both Smith and Robinson given a chance in this one.
