West Indies Test Series

Not sure how you’re taking wickets with this squad. Jimmy has barely played Woakes coming back from injury 2 novices and Bashir has been getting carted allover the park all summer.

One of Jimmy’s biggest fans but no room in sport for sentiment either he was good enough to play all summer or not at all.
What's your solution

Just can’t see a reason Bashir plays ahead of Leach at the moment. He’s had to go on loan to another county to even get some game time.

Feel the two Ollie Robinson‘s are a bit unlucky too.

Yeah probs fair

Disagree excited to see Potts, Pennington or Atkinson

Good young bowlers

I am just pointing out from a couple of years ago where we had a good core group of bowlers the cupboard is bare.

The lack of pace bowling is a major concern we have a half fit Wood and they are praying Archer gets back can see us rocking up to the ashes again with 4 mid 80s right arm seamers.

Spin as well just not much coming through plus any bowler we find seems to get injured.

'Reserve' Surrey wicketkeeper picked ahead of Durham wicketkeeper. I can't imagine in what circumstances Durham's reserve keeper would have been chosen ahead of Surrey's first choice keeper.

I thought Potts was excellent last year has been disappointing for me this year Atkinson is mainly a white ball bowler not seen much of Pennington from what I have read he’s more 86/87 then 90 plus.

Atkinson isn’t more of a while ball bowler at all

86 on average is absolute rockets, it’s what Cummins and hazlewood bowl

I wouldn't have had Woakes in the squad, he's only played 3 games (2 T20s and 1 CC) all season
Due to a bereavement.

How many games has the captain played ?
I'm guessing Woakes is also there as the experienced head of the bowling attack, plus he's handy with the bat.

The problem with Woakes is that it will be a short-term answer, he won't be round for the next Ashes. The WI and SL tests are the perfect opportunity to give someone like Atkinson a run rather than throw them straight into the deep end in an away series against Pakistan or the Aussies for example
It’s a transitional side.

Someone needs to hold these young’uns hands until they find their feet.

Without Woakes there’d be nobody after the first Test

Considering how good robinson has been for us and Stokes being able to see him close up, I am really surprised he didn't get the nod. Unless stokes doesn't want to derail our season too much

I am pretty sure that’s not the reason why he hasn’t been selected!!!!

You not seriously suggesting an England captain would not select a player in case it derails county side???

Bairstow and Foakes career over?

Wood rested from this series or at least the first 2 tests I reckon.

Robinson dropped, think he might come back for Sri Lanka if he stays fit though

Bashir being groomed for next year I reckon, they know what they get from Leach (think they would go for Hartley over Leach now as well).

Pennington been getting good reviews from alot of cricket podcasts this season (Stone coming back to fitness too)

Smith is the exciting attacking option out of the wicket keeper choices, though Robinson is very unlucky

I find Key's selections ever more eccentric. Smith looks like a great prospect but so does Robinson who is a better keeper. Picking Bashir over Leach or Dawson is just random, maybe the idea is to rely on Root & Lawrence to share spin duties and pack the batting, which would be less random. He just seems to be falling into the old trap of making punts on the future rather than winning what's in front of us.

How do you know Robinson is a better keeper than Smith?

I think they've lost confidence in Robinson's fitness or have lost patience with his attitude. Think he's a lot to do to get back in now.
