CC : Lancashire v Durham

I'll leave it you.

Anyone who knows me will know that I wouldn't be fussed watching England even if they were playing in my front garden.
Certainly agree at T20. I'd half open the blinds for test matches.
Well that's my 16 game unbeaten run as Red ball cricket OP at an end so as promised I'll hand over the reigns to the new person.:D
No, resignation not accepted. After a gallant effort we require a calm, controlled head to review how we proceed. None better qualified or experienced than @ The Red Telephone. Status quo to be maintained.

We're not quite punching in Div 1 yet. Bonus points are a serious issue. We've got the least combined bonus points in the division.

We probably only need to raise our game by about 10% to compete. I am surprised Clarke is further down the order and I don't just mean this match. I'd like to see him open and with Badger dropping down the order.

Just home an hour ago. Wonderful 4 days of cricket in glorious weather. Quite annoyed we've lost that game though today we did the hard work. I'll post my full thoughts later once I've settled down
I think you should give it a title as you where there for the whole game.
"A long weekend in Blackpool"
The account of leather on willow, smuggling pepsi max and asylum seekers.
It could be made for a channel 4 drama.

Don’t think he has the technique to open in red ball.

To be fair, he could probably pen a very decent book on his time spent following Durham over the years a la Tim Wellock.

If that knacker Paul Days can write books, anyone can.

so....

As things go, that was an absolutely cracking game of county cricket, it had everything including good weather at a very decent outground, despite the silly ground rules which were easily broken today.

On to the game, and I said on here after day 1 that I was satisfied, I thought we pulled it back well, at 350ish I wasn't concerned. For us to get in to tea on day 2 approx 210-5 I was again more than content and hoped we could get to 300, fair to say that last session was one of the worst we have had for a very long time and it was hard to defend that. On to day 3 and it was a tough day, and once we got put into bat I was worried, but we started well then gave away cheap wickets, especially Borthwick, totally stupid. Onto day 4 and we needed a miracle and truth be told we should have won, it was an outstanding effort by Bedders and Robbo this morning and they had everyone worried as they batted so so well. Bedders got an absolutely shocking decision, I felt the umpire guessed. Stokes trying to be clever, pissing about and got bowled which really was the turning point and a few Lancashire fans mentioned this during and after the game how stupid it was as Durham were cruising which most in the ground seemed to accept. The rest we all know about, it's concerning how we crumbled on day 2 after tea and again today when I strongly believe we were in good places on both occasions. To say I'm gutted we lost is an understatement, make no mistake about it, Lancashire are shite, we have made some of them look like world class bowlers. I'm a big fan of Jennings as I have said on here many times, no shock to see him deliver against us, but again we were very tame with him.
Captaincy is worrying me, I said during the game why does he not bowl Ackermann more often, we saw today the worth of having 2 spinners with Wells chipping in with the wicket of Stokes and we know what Lyon brings. Borthwick's batting also remains concerning, he never seems to be in any sort of control/comfort at the moment. Is he in the team because he's captain?

Bowling has been all over the place, Stokes stuck at things well on day 3 as did Ben Raine. After that I'm struggling and believe others need to step up more.

Batting wise as I've said 2 totally unacceptable collapses. The bottom 3 contributed 11 runs in 2 innings which is very poor and Coughlin above only contributing 17 runs in 2 innings. Not good is it? All 4 of them across both innings faced just less than 90 balls between them in this game for 8 wickets.

Just feel as though we threw away the game massively today, it was very poor after lunch.

As for Blackpool as a cricket venue, if you ever get the chance to go then do it as it's a wonderful setting for cricket, obviously the weather helped.

As for the game on Friday, I think we will see Potts drop out for Siddle. That aside I don't see any other changes.

Tough one to take that today, really tough.

Personally thats was one helluva an effort from Durham and would have been one of the great victories if they had have pulled it off.
I thought they would be all out for about 250 an hour after lunch.
One or two things to look at before Friday but its proving a big step up this year and teams are not letting Durham steam roller them like last year but also Durham are playing some decent cricket.

I nominate Brandon.
We are playing some decent cricket but we need to cut out playing bad cricket as its costing us.Some great cricket got us in a position to win this game but we threw it away ultimately . Massive opportunity missed yesterday

I agree.

True.

I'd forgotten about him.

Beddingham is furious at that decision.
It looks like he didn't touch it from the replay. The truth can be seen in the reaction. Straight back to his mark before looking up for the next delivery, then the shock when he sees that the umpire has his finger up, followed by anger and then the reproachful look back at the umpire as he walked off. It was like watching the first half of the 7 stages of grief, but I rather doubt that the acceptance hit any time that day.

Bedingham has walked previously when nicking behind too, which I always thought should count for something.

Unfortunately I think the state of domestic umpiring is getting worse, which is odd when we live in a time where I genuinely feel like Test umpiring is at an all-time high.

Said this for a few year now, it's alarming just how bad it is.
